You need to stop using Vista as Microsoft has not supported it since 2014. OK to use Vista for a while after 2014 because Windows Update still gave security updates for other Windows products (Word, Works, etc.). But now, Windows Update for Vista will not work anymore for anything. At least switch to Windows 7 as Microsoft will probably support it until 2020.
Does Windows Search only work on Windows XP, or does it also work on Vista? If you are using Windows XP, you can uninstall Windows Search 4.0 by going to the add remove software icon in the control panel.
In Windows 7, to remove Internet Explorer History from the indexed locations list, click the Start Button, and then type:
control /name Microsoft.IndexingOptions then hit enter.in the Indexing Options, you can see the items listed. Click Modify, and on the Indexed Locations window that pops up, uncheck the box next to Internet Explorer History. If you are on Windows Vista and find that neither of these suggestions work, sorry about that. I don't have a vista machine to try it on because I can't stand vista.
Uninstall internet explorer 8 and try reinstalling it. If that dont work i would seriously think of doing away with Vista and go buy a Windows 7 upgrade disk.
The issue usually occurs if you are using windows xp drivers on a vista machine. It's strange that the error does not come up when printing from internet explorer 7.0.
There is a file on support.dell.com that you can run to remove any xp drivers and then run the vista installation file. that should take care of these error messages from the operating system.
you can copy and paste the following links to download and run the files :
Patch file to remove xp drivers: http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/downloads/en/downloads_splash?c=us&l=en&s=gen&~mode=popup&file=224499
