Electrolux dryer burning clothes

We just purchases a new Electrolux iq touch gas dryer October 2008. The grill inside the back of the dyer where the heat comes out was so hot that the clothes where melting onto the metal grill and turning into black char leaving marks on my clothes. We contacted the company and had the unit replaced with a new one. The replacement dryer is doing the same thing. We even changed the ducting so that its length measures 7 feet long with two 90 degree turns. The ducts are not clogged with lint. Both servicers and Electrolux do not know what is happening. The last dryer we had before we switched to the Electrolux was an older Kenmore model, but never had trouble like this. Can you help? I love my laundry appliances otherwise so I do not want to switch brands if possible. Have other people had problems with this?

any solution yet, don't know what to do, i am on my second dryer as like you, very concerned.

  • Anonymous Feb 02, 2009

I too have the same problem and I have a second dryer as well! Very displeased with Electrolux andwould never recommend this to anyone. I had my vents cleaned and there was no problem. It has to do with the dryer itself. My dryer started to burn clothing after just 2 days and the second one did the same. Not happy at all!

  • pmaione Feb 03, 2009

    Yep.. Same problem
here. Nothing I do fixes the issue. There has to be an internal
heat system that can be lowered. It is
    simply to hot.

  • adinger1 Mar 13, 2009

Same problem here! I am so relieved I'm not the only one. An Electrolux serviceman came out and replaced the internal venting thing. Same thing started happening. I thought it was water deposits that were burning into the inside of the dryer. Now I know that this in fact residue from polyester clothes.

Thank you everyone! Gonna keep having them replace it till they fix this.

  • ABIER1970 Nov 17, 2009

SAME PROBLEM HERE, I BOUGHT MY ELECTROLUX PAIR IN MARCH AND NOW THAT IT IS NOVEMBER I AM FED UP. AFTER 4 CHANGES OF THE GRILL IN THE BACK BECAUSE OF THE POLYESTER DEPOSITS (BLACK CRYSTALS) WHICH THEN END UP ON ALL THE CLOTHES, NOW THE MACHINE STARTED BURNING HOLES IN MY BLOUSES. I CONTACTED THE COMPANY AND WAITING TO HEAR IF THEY WILL TAKE IT BACK. IT IS HOPELESS I WAS TOLD THE NEW GRILL IS NEW TECHNOLOGY AND DUCT WERE CHANGED BUT WHAT IS NEW IS THE HOLES IN MY CLOTHES ON LOW HEAT.

    Hello everyone,
I'm curious if this dryer issue with Electrolux has to do with the "GAS/STEAM" Version as opposed to the electric version. I've seen a few postings on the internet like this, but I'm wondering if you all bought the GAS Steam Version or just regular Gas or Electric. Another post said that if someone wanted to go with electric, they may be better off for the Electrolux dryer in regards to the burning issue, but that may have been an assumption on their part. What kind of dryer did you all purchase?

  • gary13 Jun 13, 2013

Mine does the same thing. I blamed my 19 year old neice who always put the dryer on too hot. MAYBE I was wrong. So bought the new grillpart myself and repleced it. I should have called the manufacturer.

  • Anonymous Nov 04, 2016

Do not buy Electrolux! I've had several loads of expensive clothing & bedding ruined by their gas dryer. Model EIGD55HIWO Date of purchase 2011 from Lowe's. The model was manufactured in 2008. The inlet vent in most dryers is louvered to mix in some outside air with the air being heated by the gas (~ 500 degrees F). Electrolux removed these louvers but have not been able to lower the heat enough in their gas dryers to keep from burning clothes. The dryer gets so hot it melts the dryer sheets on to the vent. You end up with plastic honey comb vent marks all over your laundry. Our clothes were melted, fused together, and ripped. When I contacted Electrolux they told me not to use dryer sheets. What an odd solution. Well, I guess making a dryer that doesn't liquefy dryer sheets is out of the question. How dare I think of using a dryer sheet in the dryer. I probably wanted plastic crust all over my Lululemon workout clothing, expensive running socks, and $150 blanket. A week later we ended up with an E66 code. The dryer refused to burn our clothing any more. The error code was a happy alternative to coming home to a house that the dryer burnt down. Since the dryer was no longer under warranty and Electrolux was not claiming liability, I decided not to gamble on a repair man giving me a $500 (or more) bill to fix the thermostat, get it running, and put in the new louvered inlet vent that Electrolux has hush hush come up with since so many have claimed the dryer burns their clothes. I bought a new front load gas dryer, trashed the clothing incinerator, and will never buy Electrolux again.

All,
Not sure if this is a solution to the issues we are experiencing. However, I called Electrolux (877-435-3287) and spoke to a customer service rep (Peggy).

After I provided the information she stated that this is a known issue and Electrolux has a fix in place. She is sending new parts out to me today and I will have to call Electrolux back when I receive the parts to have a technician install the parts. The parts they are sending are, A Mister Exhaust System and a new Air Duct.
In addition, they are issuing me a check for $100.00 for the damaged clothes (100 wont cover it, but I thought it was a nice gesture, maybe you could get more).

The Problem has not been resolved. I have have the back grill replaced for the 4th time today. The service person told me he replaces these weekly.

I'm call Electrolux now. I am going to ask for a new dryer. Thousands of dollars in clothing has been destroyed. I'm sick of this.. In addition, the Washer makes all my clothes STINK. So my clothes stink and then melt. Great products! :)

  • pmaione Jan 08, 2010

There is only ONE solution to this issue. Don't use the dryer and hang your clothes on a line. I used the gentle and air dry cycled for the past 4 months and it happened again.

A service tech was out today and replaced the thermostat and vent for the 3rd time.

I recommend to anyone reading this to damand a NEW dryer. According to most post I've read the new Electrolux dryer does not have this issue.

I am having the same problem with my Electrolux dryer as mentioned above (burning clothes/back of vent grate too hot even on low heat). We had three repair calls, including one that needed 3 techs to pry the front off the dryer (per the repair instructions), which had been GLUED ON against specs!!!! Ran a load on lowest heat, and it scorched clothes worse than before - looked like sleeve of my husband's undershirt melted on the bottom of one of the older dishwashers (sure you've had that happen with plastic stuff that dropped) and even burned a HOLE in the shirt! This was the worst damage yet, and the "fixed" dryer is obviously now a fire hazard. I haven't even been able to wash any of our bedding for a month now (and our daughter and I have both been sick with the flu), because it will only dry on medium heat, and the one time I tried my daughter's bedding got severely scorched (and it's not like I can hang-dry bedding like I have had to do for her school uniforms, hubby's undershirts, etc.). This has become a huge issue!

I am absolutely FURIOUS with Electrolux - we've been dealing with this for a month plus, and now with their "process" they are telling me it takes 24-48 hours to get a fax put into the system (I had to fax in all repair receipts), and oh, by the way, they are closed this Friday for a holiday. I just called now and was told file is in review - told them I do not want a new dryer as I do not have any confidence in the product based on previous posts and I want my money back and will not buy an Electrolux product again. I also told them I am posting this issue on the internet and am considering Twittering their spokesperson to let her know the issues we are all facing regarding their dryers.

I personally advise against buying an Electrolux dryer, period, unless they can concretely prove that they have resolved this issue. Even so, just their continuing to sell this unit with this type of severe issue still going on has me unwilling to ever buy one of their products again. I have had several washers and dryers over the years, and some that have needed repairs, but none that have damaged/burned our clothes like this, which I consider inexcusable.

Oh, btw, they told me they would send a form I could fill out to claim damages for the burnt/black-marked clothes. That was a month ago - nothing in my mailbox yet (they were not able to fax or e-mail it). I am following up on that, too.

Good luck, and if anyone wants to band together to get resolution on this obviously not-isolated issue, let me know. I feel so badly for anyone who also has had to deal with this. Good luck!

  • the lint scr Oct 07, 2010

I have had the same problem, I did have a service man who helped decrease the burning issue. He Knew right away what the problem was. The lint screen is too fine. If you hold it up to the light after cleaning it, you can see it's still full of dust particles. He showed me the difference in air flow in the back without the lint screen in. He taught me to spray out with water or even use a scrub brush. With the dust in the lint screen, the hot air doesn't blow out and the dryer over heats. This was May. He said he thought maybe they would recall the lint screens. It's October now and today I went one too many loads without spraying and I ruined another dress. I called today to check on the status of this problem and the customer service lady told me this service man was wrong (even though he showed me he was right) and they're going to send another service guy. Crazy.

In an effort to be more efficient, Electrolux removed these louvers and have not been able to lower the heat enough in their gas dryers to keep from burning clothes. Hi All, I purchased this dryer in June '09. By November it was burning our clothes - same thing - black residue. It happened to one of my husband's shirts and I knew it was the vent in the back because it was a honeycomb black stain. I called Electrolux and they sent me three parts to be replaced. Service people came and replaced them and it immediately started happening again. I called again and they told me that 4 parts had to be replaced. After a week the parts had not shown up, turns out one was on backorder, so they finally they agreed to replace the dryer. As soon as they did, the first load of laundry I did burned the clothes. When I called again, they told me again that 4 parts need to be replaced. I told them that the dryer was burning holes in our clothes and that I want them to refund my money for the dryer AND the washer. I told them that this is fire hazard and if I have to I will file a lawsuit, call the media, write a letter to Kelly Ripa, etc. in order to get my dryer and washer replaced. I received a call back a couple of hours later and they are refunding my money. They also reimbursed me $225 for my "inconvenience" back in December and offered another $150 after the dryer was replaced. My advice is to have them give you your money back rather than replace the dryer with a new one. They will not recall this dryer until it starts a fire and causes major damage. They are obviously trying to keep this hush, hush.

Hello all, i am abier1970 who wrote on nov 17th 2009, the solution is to give up and call electrolux for a return if your lucky and you are still with in the first 12 months of the purchase. after burning wholes through some clothes and putting black stuff on others, i gave up and electrolux sent me a full refund of dryer not including tax and delivery. they also gave me $200 for the damaged clothes which is no where near what i lost but it is a good gesture. i then went to sears to purchase an old fashion kenmore ( being weary of another new dryer with a grill in the back ) after doing a lot of research, but associate in the store told me that the best out there is samsung and it is the best rated on jd power ( which i had seen earlier). now i have had it installed for 2 months and is working great. no problems at all with the grill.... happy drying to all. it doesn't matter that the colors of electrolux washer and samsung dryer don't match. all that matters is that it works.

DONT EVER BUY ELECTROLUX AGAIN. My dryer had same problem. The grill is dark brown now. It has ruined 2 comforters and a bunch of clothes. Called a repair man, paid 65 bucks just to tell me parts and labor will be 700 usd. May as well buy a new dryer. Maybe get a SEARS brand soon. Getting tired of having to worry about clothes being burned. By the time I figured out the dryer was the cause, the warrantee was done for :( TELL FRIENDS AND FAMILY AND SOCIAL MEDIA TO STAY AWAY FROM ELECTROLUX.

My crappy Electrolux Dryer that proficiently exhibits the same burning techniques as described in the prior posts is a GAS dryer.
Helpful hints that usually lessen the burning risk:
Don't use a dryer sheet more than once.
    Air or delicate drying cycle
    No fleece! Ever
By all means don't let your clothes fully dry in the dryer! This will result in burned clothes!

I would consult the place of purchase. If they do not stand behind the product, then get the manufacturers support #. They will stand behind their product, especially if it is a possible fire hazard. THe smell you are smelling could be anything, but without being there and taking off the cover and doing a visual check. it's hard to dianose. It is possible that something that is plastic has fallen out of a pocket and gotten inside the unit while it was drying clothes and fallen onto the igniter housing.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Refrigerator (GS5SHAXNLOO) Ice maker not running, some ice in maker melted together

I have the same model. This has happened to me several times (usually when the door was kept ajar without notice).
Simply open the door, take a common hairdryer and blow at high speed (hottest also) all around the area of where you can feel the ice in the tray, but hasn't dumped yet. It will usually take about 5-8 minutes of consistently moving back and forth around that area. What has happened is the lines bringing water to the trays have frozen over. When you "thaw" them out, the ice made will dump in about 45 minutes. When you hear the ice fall, you will know it's in working order again. I have NOT heard this is a "flawed" icemaker, only that it is hypersensitive to freezing lines when a door is left ajar. In your case, to prevent this from happening again. If you shut the icemaker off again, make SURE you turn off the source of the water feed BEFORE you turn off the ice maker. By doing this, the lines will empty as it makes it's last tray of water. Try that - very confident it will fix your problem!

Dyer not working

Most likely a faulty heating element or a blown thermal fuse. Both components can be tested using a multimeter. Test for continuity. A lack of resistance indicates a bad component. The thermal fuse located just inside the rear of the dryer and is usually mounted on the exhaust duct. It is about one inch long. If it has no continuity, the thermal fuse is blown. Hope this helped and best wishes.
