Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

No voltage to convergence chips

The convergence IC's on this set are cold. I figure that a fuse or resistor has opened.Does anyone have the service manual for a Panasonic pt-47wx42f or a DP820 chassis by Panasonic

There are usually 2 micro fuses that resemble 1/4 watt resisters around the power supply, and are usually all green, tan or yellow, and in most cases will have a + or - voltage marked right near these fuses 20 to 25 volts dc typical.

Hi,
A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Good luck!

Mitsubishi convergence issue

First is consider what the issue is: nothing moves convergence wise or only one color etc.

Also follow if needed the voltages from the pico fuses involved---one will be a negative voltage and the other a positive one--follow them from the diodes for each voltage to the chips---"Got Voltages?"

Convergence Resistors keep burning up

Some simple advice---if resistors are smoking one of the chips is shorted----The set has two voltages that go to them--one a positive voltage and one a negative voltage.

If either chip is shorted you can replace the resistors all year and not get anything. The resistors are protection in case one or both chips short----

Remove all old heat grease and install two new chips and replace the resistors at the same time.

Note that the set may have pico fuses on the power board also.

Tv still turning off blinking three times after hori ic replaced

Three blinks is short protection.

97% of the time it means one or more of the 2.2 ohm blue resistors around the two convergence IC's is OPEN.

There should be 8 or 10 of them: light blue in color and will have 2.2 printed on them ------look for any that are slightly discolored or white in the middle.

What happens here is if one opens====one of the two convergence chips got it----they can be tested in place like testing a fuse===no reading across any of them and it is gone-----set detects no voltage reaching the chips(Usually STK-392-110---black in color and on metal heat sinks with fins side by side.)

DO NOT JUST REPLACE THE RESISTOR IF YOU FIND ONE BAD=ONE OF THE CHIPS GOT IT.

I have start to finish, step by step instructions showing what is needed and the best way to replace the chips etc.

FIRST: LOOK TO SEE IF any OF THE RESISTORS ARE GONE. (BAD)

If you want the instructions let me know and I will post them here for you.

Regards, SD TECH

FYI= Whoever told you to replace the output transistor does clearly not know these sets very well as it will produce a 5 blink error code.

Touch Focus Error

57h82 uses two STK-392-110 CONVERGENCE chips---you need to replace both and check all the resistors around them---an open resistor means one of the chips failed.

You can buy both chips on Ebay for less than 12 dollars plus shipping--they are black--about 2 inches wide, 1 1/2 inches tall with 18 pins each and the STK number will be printed on the face of them in white letters; You need a good soldering iron, solder, a desolder braid, liquid flux, heat sink grease, denatured alcohol, and the ability to get at them: they are mounted to two side by side metal heat sinks with fins.

Once you locate them and unsolder them and the heat sinks from the board--replace both after cleaning the bottom of the board with denatured alcohol--removes any flux and solder particles---apply liquid flux before you unsolder them--these sets use lead free solder and the flux makes it easy to unsolder them. Once they are removed check all the resistors around them---one open resistor and the repair will not fix your problem---install the new chips with heat sink grease on them and install each chip/heat sink back into the circuit board.

Apply more flux to all the pins on each chip and solder them in----good idea to clean with denatured alcohol again and take a close look to make sure all pins are soldered and not touching each other.

If you get this far and the set now seems to work you need to use the original remote for the set and adjust the convergence--either in the customer menu or access the tech menu and adjust it there.

A service manual will not do you much good for this type of repair--it is a hands on repair.

I do this here for free, so if this has helped you take a moment and give me a vote here.

Unit turns on for a few seconds then turns off

Usually in these sets the 2-2 error code is a shorted convergence IC----they are protected in most models (don't know your exact model number) by two pico fuses(they do not look like glass fuses and are usually in the power supply--little green parts that look like small resistor--amperage is marked on them and usually they are 5 amp) the fuses can be checked like any other type of fuse---if one or both of these are open the set will detect no voltage to the convergence chips and shut the set down. If you locate the convergence chips look for any discolored or burnt resistors around them----in most models they are light blue in color and marked 3.9 ohms---if any are white in the middle they are gone---

I do this here for free so if this helps you give me a vote here.

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Convergence will not line up after replacing ic & resistors

Did you replace the resistors when you replaced the convgence chips? If one of them was bad you would still have the problem.

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Convergence no adjustment

There are black in color circuit protectors in the set that have blown because of the bad convergence IC's. You will need to measure the voltages on the ICs and make sure you have the correct plus and minus voltages. There should be about + and - 24 volts on each IC. I'm afraid the only way you will know what voltage are what and where they should be would be to get a service manual. i am sorry i do not have this model to share with you. Good Luck.
