If your power supply is bad, there is typically a much cheaper way to fix it rather than purchasing a new one.

If you know a little about electronics or know someone who does have them open up the power supply and check the capacitors. Often times when a power supply goes bad its the result of capacitors going bad.

If you notice on the ends of any capacitors a brownish/whitish discharge or "bulging" then the capacitor has gone bad.

A new one typically cost less than a dollar and replacing it is fairly easy if you know how to solder.

Let me know if you have anymore questions and hopefully if this is the case you can save some money.

Looks like you got a power surge. Did you have it plug in on a power surge? It might sound like one long beep but really it could be many beeps. It beeps really quick. If you listen carefully you can count the beeps. Repost it here again how many beeps you got. Right now I'm thinking your motherboard or your cpu is broken

It sounds like you might have burned out the power supply on your PC with a power surge when the power came back on. The are fairly inexpensive and some what easy to replace.
You will want to replace it with one of equal or greater watts. You can order a new power supply on line from many vendors.

I would not be turning the computer on and off any more. I would unplug the computer, remove the old power supply and get a new one.

You should have your system plugged into a surge protection power strip if possible.

I hope this helps,

Eric

My Acer 6800 on button light comes on, wont shut off! Wont boot up all the sudden!

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.Maybe your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugsinto the computer is bad. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside thejack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have totake the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto themotherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.Maybe your memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Remove the Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

I reset my surge protector and the computer wont power up. i think i need a new power supply. the power cord is working fine. Please let me know where i can find a power supply for the aspire...

The Acer Aspire L100 is a desktop computer powered by a special DC adapter and power cable. The computer's motherboard incorporates a fuse designed to prevent any power surges from damaging the computer. If the fuse burns out due to a power surge or for any other reason, the computer will no longer function. You can check the motherboard fuse for damage yourself, then take it to a trained technician for replacement if needed

Shut down the Acer Aspire L100 and turn the tower around.

Press the "On/Off" button on the front of the tower. If the computer will not boot and the fan does not turn on, the fuse may be burned out.

Unplug the power cord from the rear of the tower

Turn the tower on its side and remove the Phillips-head screws connecting the back panel to the Aspire L100's cabinet.

Pull out the motherboard assembly gently from the back of the cabinet. The internal fuse is located on the motherboard behind the DC power jack, which is to the right of the monitor jack

Let me know if this helped..

What you were trying to do tried to remove the RAM and boot your pc. Buddy once you remove your RAM you are going to get long beeps as it tells there is no RAM on mother board and it won't boot. Just install back all the things and let me know how many beeps you are getting and what type short and long.

From what you describe, you issue could well be the hard drive. Turn the system on, then press f12 to enter the setup, see if the system stays running. While there, if it stays on, see if the hard drive is detected.

If the HDD is detected, see if you can run diags on the drive.

Other options, boot to the Windows Media and see if the system stays running there. (you may have to remove the hard drive to do this)

If the system runs in any of these and will not boot to the hard drive at all, then there is a good possibility that the drive is bad, and you may well have lost your data.

If the system continues to power off, even with the HDD removed, then the motherboard is likely the failure.

My Acer Aspire T180 won't boot

There is one thing you can try first before replacing *********** board.

Try shorting the jumpers on the CMOS battery. look for the JP3 jumper usually it is near the battery it looks like a quarter coin only a little bit smaller. If your having difficulty finding the jumper remove the battery for 24hrs. this will reset the CMOS then put it back in and power on the CPU.

If that doesn't work then replace *********** board is easy. bring it to a computer shop so they can match the devices in your CPU to match a motherboard of your choice.

Could be a faulty power supply or maybe motherboard problem. But I would open the case and clean the processor fan first as it could be a heat issue preventing start up.
