Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

22 Answers

Reset family setting password

My daughter's Xbox 360 password was set by someone else & need to reset it. It asks for favorite food but we do not know what was previously put in there so we can not reset it. How do we reset this so we can play it & reset it.

Here's what you need to do:

Turn on your xbox, go to System Settings. From there go to Console Settings. A window should appear that asks you for your password. If you don't know your password, then make up something. It will tell you your password is incorrect, click Reset Password".

You'll need to type in: YrYa

If this fails, then you need to follow these steps to reset your factory settings.

Turn off your xbox. Take your hard drive out (the bulge on the side of your 360. It says HDD on it.) by pressing the gray button, and sliding the piece out. Turn on your xbox, go to System Settings - Console Settings - System Info.

Press these buttons IN ORDER:

LT RT X Y LB RB Y (using the left joystick) go right ONCE A

After all of this is completed, a window should appear asking you if you would like to reset your system settings, press yes!

After all of this is completed, you'll need to turn your xbox off, put the hard drive back in, and turn it back on.

I JUST had this problem, and this is what tech told me to do... and it worked.
Good luck! Down with passwords!

I guess the sequence of buttons depends on the serial number of your xbox, because I've tried over a dozen different sequences and finally this one worked. Thanks Alex!

  • tuyen bui Dec 29, 2010

goto account.live.com put in your email address which you used on the setting then they will sent you a link to reset your password

I tried all of the above, but nothing worked. I ended up putting a few of the tips together and was finally able to reset my Xbox 360 to factory settings without doing anything to the hard drive.

Go to System Settings, Console Settings, System Info. At this screen you should see the Serial number and Console ID along with a bunch of other info. Here you enter LT, RT, X, Y, LB, RB, up arrow, left arrow, down arrow and Y. You should then see a message asking you if you want to reset the Xbox to factory settings. Answer yes. You will have to set it up again, but it only takes a second. You just need to make sure that you have your internet info handy if you have to manually enter it. Otherwise, you are good to go in 4 questions.

ATTENTION:

For all people having issues with family passcode reset.

console settings<<<system info

*** Look at your serial number*** at the top. xxxxxxx xxxxx

write it down!

now

Call 1-800-4my-xbox

Please dont think you will be given the run around over the phone..
They will help.

First they will ask you a series of questions,,like gamer tag,,billing address, ect.

Then they will ask for your serial number. ( xxxxxxx xxxxx )

Next, after giving the serial to xboxlive tech support, they will give you back a sequence of game controller entries to reset the console.

Something like this:

( LT + RT +X+ Y + LB+ RB ) + Plus four destictive presses, associated with your serial number.

So: it will be something like, LT + RT +X+Y +LB+RB +(LEFT+LEFT+UP+A )

All xbox 360's are different.

The serial in <system info> is the key to your indivisial passcode reset.

MIne is (up+up+left+y)

My buddies is(a+a+left+left)

Your's will be different.

If you bought a used xbox360, make sure you get the serial from your system info in your dash.
Used xbox 360 may have had the guts swapped, and may be different.

So: Grin and Bare it, and make the call.
5 to 10 hold time..not bad

good luck

Here is what i tried on my Xbox 360 and it works (LT RT X Y LB RB) this what start the reset, after that u have to punch 4 more buttons i did a trial and error thing here is the list of what works so far LT RT X Y LB RB B B X X LT RT X Y LB RB Y B A X LT RT X Y LB RB left left X X LT RT X Y LB RB up up X X LT RT X Y LB RB down down X X LT RT X Y LB RB right right X X LT RT X Y LB RB X X X X this one works on my friend Xbox 360 too and i sure there is more :) good luck

I agree that LT,RT,X,Y,LB,RB,X,,Y,A first is the sequence to ulock then the Dpad combo is what may be different for all X-boxes. For mine I did the sequence abovr then I did L,L,L on the D-pad. So just try different D-pad combos after the unlock swquence and it should work.

First proceed to My Xbox, then Cnsole Settings, then press in this order: Left Trigger, Right Trigger, X, Y, Left Bumper, Right Bumper, X, D-pad: left, down. This will start the process, eventually restarting the console. Please also be aware, I don't know what else will be asked of you once you restart, I have not had to utilize this yet, but thanks to google, found the answer.

Try buying a new hard drive and a data transfering device and transfer your profile and only your pro file to the new hard drive. you should then have no family setings on your new hard drive.
remember to buy all this second hand from a good shop like GAME.

Your best bet is to call Xbox Live support and talk to them. They will most likely ask for your billing info/credit card information so make sure you have it on hand. This is the fastest and probably the only way you will be able to reset it.
