SOURCE: I got the problem too, today...

Check the specs for your video card. Just because the monitor can handle that resolution does not mean that your graphics card can. If it cannot then you can either upgrade the graphics card to one that will support the resolution or you'll have to use the highest resolution that your video card can support. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Monitor resolution setting

I would check for new drivers for the video card. They usually have higher resolution abilities for these fancy wide screen monitors.

May I suggest use the Restoration Disk?

Turn computer on, open optical drive (CD/DVD drive), and put disk in.
Close drive tray.

When asked choose Repair. Non-Destructive Installation.

Repairs the basic Windows files, and your on your way.

Do not have the Restoration Disk? No problem. Get it from HP Support.

Posting from a USA view;
The disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.
$17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.
Call 800-474-6836 - 24 Hours a day, 7 days a week.

Write down the Serial Number, and have it ready to give to the nice representative on the phone.
This is in the white Service Tag, on the back of the computer.
S/N = Serial Number.

For all countries use HP Support Worldwide,

http://welcome.hp.com/country/w1/en/support.html

If I may;
If you do send for the Restoration Disk, and are not in the USA; may I ask are the shipping charges about the same?

For additional questions please post in a Comment.

Black screen just after boot window from USB

Sounds like either the monitor or video card inside the computer is bad. Try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a friend, neighbor, relative or co-worker and plug it into the computer. If the borrowed monitor displays ok, then your original monitor is bad. If the borrowed monitor does the same thing and not show a display then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Have you tried this monitor on a different computer? If it happens on a different computer then most likely the monitor is defective.

I am having trouble with the monitor showing a black screen. It will turn off in the middle of anything I am doing, quite randomly. Using windows XP Home edition. PC does not turn off, but disk light...

I would suggest to first determine that your monitor is OK. If you are using a notebook try connecting an external monitor as well and see if the same random (monitor switching off problem) happens with this monitor. If you have a desktop try connecting a different monitor.

If the same condition happens with a different monitor try updating the drivers for your video card.

It sounds like the monitor whose writing comes up in pink has a problem with the RGB usually IC driven and all of them sound like they have faulty power supply boards. Will investigate further and give a more detailed answer. Hope this helps for the time being.
