Question about Computers & Internet
Can I update to 7 or 8(windows) even though xp wont load properly(says missing files)?
Windows 8 Release Preview works great on the same hardware that powers Windows 7: • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit) • Hard disk space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit) • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device or higher Additional requirements to use certain features: • To use touch, you need a tablet or a monitor that supports multitouch. • To access the Windows Store and to download and run apps, you need an active Internet connection and a screen resolution of at least 1024 x 768. To snap apps, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768.
be careful not to copy it over the current operating system you might use another hard drive or create a partition
if you download the review

If some files are missing on your Windows 7 , then it will be better to repair it than updating it . Updating may not fix the problem . But repairing OS will fix it for sure .
If you don't know how to repair , then
1: Insert [ Windows 7 CD ] in the CD driver .
2: After that reboot the system .
3: While the system is coming back during the rebooting it will notice that there is an OS CD is inserted and it will ask you , if you want to boot from CD .
4: Agree with it and follow the procedure until you will be asked , if you want to install a fresh copy of OS or you want to repair the existent one .
5: You have to agree with repairing .
Note : Repairing the OS will fill the gaps and correct the errors on your OS .

Windows 7 does not allow an upgrade from Windows XP. You would have to upgrade to Vista first and then on to 7. Also, it depends on which Vista you have that will determine which Windows 7 you can upgrade to. If you have Vista Home basic for instance, you cannot upgrade to Windows 7 Premium or professional. It is really screwed up. You can however do a clean install but you will lose all your old files unless you back them up on an external drive before running the new OS.
