When I try to scan a document on my HP Officejet 4500, a box appears stating the LCD list needs upgraded. What does that mean, how do I do that and why hasn't this happened before when I scanned?

This means the printer has lost the front panel menu items, likely due to some Microsoft update or firewall update in the computer.

Launch the HP solution center on the computer. Click the SETTINGS button. Hover over or click the SCAN SETTINGS button, and choose SCAN TO SETUP. Add or remove items depending on the options you wish to be available at the time of scan, and click UPDATE DEVICE.
Your scan options should now be available from the front panel of the device.
If this did not work, try again in 30 minutes.

If this still didn't work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the software.

NOTE: these instructions assume you are using the CUE13 (black interface) software.
If you are not, uninstall the software and drivers for the printer that you are using, and go to the HP website, and get the latest drivers and CUE software.

I cannot send a fax or scan a document. Are there special drivers or software needed to do so?

Looking at your unit, you can send a fax or scan a document by using the operations screen using the menu's accessed from the front panel of the unit. You can send faxes if you have connected the machine to a telephone line. You can scan to a USB drive or a computer, if you have a computer or USB drive connected to the unit. I have attached links directly to Cannon's support site for the on screen manual and for drivers and downloads. There are MP drivers and MP Navigator EX that need to be installed. These applications can be obtained from the second link, drivers and downloads.

To scan you will need to connect the unit to a computer by using a USB cord and thru a network. If you have the unit on a network then you need to install the Cannon IJ Network Scan utility, also available on the second link,

Saving Scanned Data on the Computuer

(1) Make sure that the power is turned on.

(2) Load an original on the Platen Glass or in the ADF (automatic document feeder).

Select the scan operation.

(1) Press the SCAN button.

(2) Make sure that PC is selected, and press the OK button.

The computer selection screen will appear.

(3) Use the (Up) or (Down) button to select the computer to save scanned data, and press the OK button.

Here we select Local (USB).

The document type selection screen will appear.

Here we select Auto detect.
i_important.gif Important

bullet_s.gif Make sure that the originals have been loaded correctly according to the type of original that you have selected. For details, see Loading Originals.
i_note.gif Note

bullet_s.gif If the computer connected over a network is selected in (3), Auto detect does not appear on the LCD.

bullet_s.gif The type of original other than Auto detect includes Document (platen), Photo (platen), Document (ADF simplex), and Document (ADF duplex). If you select other than Auto detect, you can save all scanned data in a PDF file, attach it to a mail, open it with a software application.

Refer to the on-screen manual: Advanced Guide .

bullet_s.gif When selecting Auto detect to scan an original, it will be scanned according to the settings of MP Navigator EX. For details, refer to the on-screen manual: Advanced Guide .

  1. Start scanning.

(1) Make sure that the original is loaded on the Platen Glass or in the ADF.

(2) Press the Color or Black button.

The settings configured with MP Navigator EX apply when scanning.

I will send a separate post to give directions on faxing. You can download and install the manual onto your computer if you like. It contains all of the directions on the use of the unit and has nice illustrations to help you see what the directions describe. Select the On screen manual, let it download and once the file is unzipped, tell it to run. Once the manual installs, look on your program listing on the Start menu for the Cannon manual and open it like any other program.

Here are the links, first for the manual page, look for the link on the lower portion of the page, The second for the driver and download page if you need additional software.

Paper jams when using the ADF. Canon IC D780

Hi there,

When using ADF
Note:
* Set a document on the Platen Glass if you want to scan it at optimum quality,
* The area (range) within 0.08"/2mm from the top edge if document cannot be printed since the machine cannot scan it.
*Do not load the following types of documents in the ADF. They will jam.
-Wrinkled or creased paper
- Curled paper
- Torn paper
- Paper with holes
- Carbon paper or carbon-backed paper
- Surface treated paper
- Onion skin or thin paper
- Photogragh or thick paper.
1) Remove any documents from the PLaten Glass.
2) Open the Document Tray.
3) Load the document in the ADF.
Load the document with the side you want to copy, or scan face up in the ADF.
4) Adjust the Doument Guides to match the document width.
Note :
Ensure that the edge of the document stack is in line with the Paper Size Mark imprinted on the Document Tray.

Hope this helps.
Please rate my response.
Thanks
Have a good day.

How do you scan and email a document on the HP Deskjet F4200?

Hi,
Just open an email & address it as usuall, now, at the top of the email you will see an icon that looks like a peperclip, click on that, a box opens & you just navigate to the file using the browse button. When you click on the file it will show up in your email uner 'subject'. If you don't see a paperclip then look for the word 'insert', this will do the same thing. Good luck. If this helps you plz rate this 'fixya'. If you need further help leave a comment & I'll be happy to walk you through it. Thank you kindly.

Cannot scan via 5610 because the screen message refers to microsoft word

Hi,

If you are trying to scan a document, and the settings that you have on the HP SOlution Center Installed in your computer uses the Microsoft Word as SCAN TO, you cant use it since your Microsoft Word Office is not yet setup. You may try using the WOrd Pad instead. Or, you can use the .pdf to scan a document. Just open the SOlution Center on your computer, and try to go to click on Scan Documents- the window will pop-up and change some settings there.

Thank you so much.
