There may be a loose cable or a loose jack. try removing the HDD & refitting while checking all the jacks & Cables

I would check all the cable and power cord connections to start and check that nothing was knocked loose when you were inside the computer. If applicable make sure the graphics card is seated in its slot. I would also try a different monitor, maybe a CRT. This may allow you to get into the BIOS. There are usually some changes that can made in there that might solve the problem. Is there a Menu button on the LCD? There might be something in there that would help.

How to Format a Computer with Windows Vista

Warning - Formatting hard drive information does not permanently erase the data. Even after a computer has been formatted, deleted files can be easily recovered. If you want to permanently wipe your hard drive by completely overwritting hard drive data, check out WipeDrive.
To format your hard disk during Windows Vista installation, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using the Windows Vista installation disc or USB flash drive.

  1. Turn on your computer so that Windows starts normally, insert the Windows Vista installation disc, and then shut down your computer.

  2. Restart your computer.

  3. Press any key when prompted, and then follow the instructions that appear.

  4. On the Install Windows page, follow any instructions that are displayed, and then click Install now.
    • If the Install Windows page doesn't appear, and you're not asked to press any key, you might need to change some system settings. To learn how to do this, see Start Windows from a CD or DVD.
  5. On the Get important updates for installation page, we recommend getting the latest updates to help ensure a successful installation and to help protect your computer against security threats. You will need an Internet connection to get installation updates.

  6. On the Type your product key for activation page, do one of the following:
    • If you are reinstalling Windows Vista, you should enter your product key now.
    • If you are not reinstalling Windows Vista, you can skip this step.
  7. On the Please read the license terms page, if you accept the license terms, click I accept the license terms.

  8. On the Which type of installation do you want? page, click Custom.

  9. On the Where do you want to install Windows? page, click Drive options (advanced).

  10. Click the partition that you want to format and click Format
    • If you have more than one partition on this hard drive and want to get rid them to make one big drive again, then select a partition and click on the Delete option for each partition. Once you have deleted all of the partitions, select the Unallocated Space partition and click Format
  11. When you've finished formatting, click Next.

  12. Follow the instructions to finish installing Windows Vista, which include naming your computer and setting up an initial user account.
    • If you do not want to reinstall Windows Vista, you can cancel the installation at this point and keep your newly formatted drives.

If you have important files on the drive I would suggest removing the drive from the system, placing the drive in an external inclosure (or you could hook it up direct to another desktop as a slave drive) then backup your personal documents.

After confirming that all the documents have been saved I would then format and reinstall the operating system and programs and finally copy all the old files back onto the drive.

Let me know if you have any questions or need specifics.

When rebooting, after the first screen the computer shuts down and the mouse in inactivated. After a brief pause, the Windows screen opens but the mouse is inactive.

You seem to have a virus or a trojan in your pc, my recommendation is to format the hard drive and reinstall the operatingsystem, you can try to boot in safe mode with an antivirus program cd and see if it will detect your problem if not just format and reinstall, tese things have happened to and I either remove the virus / trojan through safe mode or go back into an older restore point and see if that works. Try it out if not then just format and reinstall windows, it will give you a like new fresh install.

Good luck.

If your CD-Drive is IDE and you have IDE HDD you need to remove or set correctly jumper on the back of CD-Drive. I think by default it's setup to be Master, and HDD also Master, so you need to give somebody Slave priority neither HDD/CD

Vista recovery/hard drive

hi your hard drive is a 250gig when your reinstalling vista it will think that your pc needs to split the hard drives for recovery this is why its done that and because of that it will use a small part of the hard drive for its own mem use so you will lose the total size of the hard drive im running 1000gig and only getting 800 gig for my self this you cannot do anything about .
the only thing you can do is reinstall your vista program and when on the screen for formatting the hard drive it will say do you want to format the partitions in the box there will be a delet this partition you must delet all the partitions so there is only one left then you must reinstall vista on that one only this will get rid of all the other ones so you sould be left with just 1 hard drive when you start up vista this should put you back on to close to 235gig
hope this works for you
all the best thanks
