Question about Televison & Video
I changed the batteries,i tried different code settings,i unplugged the receiver and plugged it back in after 5 min. still not working. what next?
At first, you have to check whether the remote control is functional or not. Check its for its infrared emission. Check the battery contacts in its battery compartment for any rust or dust accumulated. Clean them well, insert fresh batteries and check for its functionality. You can get more details about how to check a remote control by check this. Some remotes will need cleaning. You can get these details too.

SOURCE: Canon remote RC-1
In order for the remote to work the drive mode needs to be set to "self timer-remote" .....that is selected by the drive mode selection button identified with the clock and multiple frames symbol ....on the back of the camera...to the right of the lcd monitor

Here are two links for the manual you are in need of:
Either of theses should get you to the correct manual and should have the code you need.

The problem for me was the TV giving off IR signals that interfered with DISH's poorly designed remote. When the TV's room ambient light sensor was turned on and it became dusk outside the DISH remote would stop working. Moving the receiver away from the TV helps but the problem is not eliminated until the light sensor is turned off.
Until DISH corrects this poor design there may be no other viable solution.

There is no need any special setup. Be careful your remote control has a good battery. The above picture explains everything. First change your mode and than press remote control to take picture. While doing that you should point the remote control device to the remote control sensor of the camera.
Below picture shows that.
