Sony projection tv middle of screen is faded

There is a large circular faded area on my screen.  The picture still looks good but a portion is faded.  An example would be if the is a close up ona person, he would look really pale if he was in the center of the screen and normal looking if he was on one of the sides.

Usually the problem is you have a defective light engine. If it is just a faded circle.

If this spot looked like a certain image, then it would be considered "image burn" and would require the purchase of a image-burn removal dvd program.

If you're certain that it's not your speakers that are causing the problem (easy enough to check by moving them away temporarily) it's worth checking that there are no other magnets or large metal objects nearby, some TVs have an auto-degauss when powered on and off rapidly in succesion or leave unplugged for 20 minutes.

Do A Reset To Determine If Its Hardware Or Settings. Unplug The Tv And Hold On/off For 30 Seconds Then Release And Plug It Back In. On Power Up Try Holding Power/on Off And See If Your Tv Beeps.
Two Different Methods As Tv's Are All Different.

See this
1. See the ugly red color bands on the television set? These can also occur in blue and green. We're going to fix these!

2. Front shot of the television. Their are two screw holes on the front of the unit near the edge of each side right next to the speaker grille.

3. Close up shot of the screw hold. It is covered by a plastic cover that has two tabs holding it in. Carefully pry them out with your flat head screwdriver. Do not apply too much pressure or you can break the tabs off. Once the covers are removed, unscrew the two screws with a Philips screwdriver.

4. To remove the cover, pull from the bottom of the front case and rotate towards you. Once you rotate it out, the top will disconnect and come loose. Do not pull it off, as there are cords attached. (see picture) Loosen the cables attached with the twist ties and set the front cover to the left side.

5. With the speaker grille and cover removed, you now need to remove the wood panel to expose the inner electronics on your Sony HD TV. To do this, remove the four Philips head screws from the panel. Then, pulling from the right, rotate the panel off and the electronics will be exposed.

6. This is a picture of the inner electronics of your Sony Rear-Projection High Definition television. The little black box towards the front of the unit is where we will concentrate our time as it is the control for the voltage & convergence adjusony projection tv middle of screen is faded - 6_voltage_projection_red_blue_green.jpgpot.com/_0xPnZbi2QtQ/Rn7bSYP11tI/AAAAAAAACR0/l8UOz9Z4vGw/s1600-h/6_Voltage_Projection_Red_Blue_Green.jpg">6_voltage_projection_red_blue_green.jpg

7. When focused in on the controls, you want to concentrate on the bottom row for the voltage / ray gun projection adjustment. The colors are labeled below and from left to right are blue, green, and red. Choose the one that needs to be adjusted and turn ever so slightly with your Philips screwdriver to remove the lines. In my case, the red just needed to be turned 1/8 of a rotation to be back in adjustment. Adjust the Green screen drive, turn it down and see if that corrects the problem.
Remove the Front Bottom Panel on front of Tv and behind it will be the Screen/Focus Control block
It will have 3 controls on Top for Focus to each Tube R/G/B
and under them are the Screen drive controls for R/G/B.
But if adjusting the Green Screen Drive Control does not Fiox It ,then you have a Bad Green Tube.

Sounds like a Picture in Picture screen popping up, but if you do not have a signal from another tuner, it will be blank.

Try hitting the PIP button on your remote to see if it turns it off and on.
Plus go into the tv menu and find the PIP settings.

Uh Oh! blue screen of death. Your light engine has warped a little from overheating and is distorting the picture.

My suggestion to you is to get on the phone with Sony and start complaining, then keep complaining until they agree to pay for it. Even if it is out of warranty.
You may have to get the problem diagnosed by a pro before they agree to pay for it though.
Hope ya fix it!

Picture Fades

It isn't clear if the picture just loses color or the screen goes blank. If you are just losing color (picture goes to B/W) there is a problem in the color circuit and from your description it could easily be a bad solder connection on the board which decodes the color portion of the picture. If you are capable with a soldering iron and know TV HV safety, unplug the set, and remove the circuit boards and inspect (with a high powered magnifier)and resolder all suspect looking connections on the boards. You could also resolder all the connections which is more work but assures that solder joints are not the problem. If your problem is not solved at this point you are probably going to need a technician to look at it as it could be just about anything and probably would be beyond your expertise. Good luck and be safe.
