Question about GE Spacemaker Washer and Dryer Electric Laundry Center
Model # WSM2400LDBWH GE Washer Dryer Combo (1993)
Dryer buzzer does not shut off when dryer is in any of the"off" positions on the dial (unless door is kept open). Buzzer does however shut off when dial is not in an "off" position but is instead in one of the "dry" cycle positions while door is closed.
Dryer does not work (dryer drum does not turn at all) when "start" button is pushed (while in any of the "dry" cycles). But I can hear a "hum" and the hum remains unless I open the door and keep it open. It hums regardless of whether I push the "start" button or not so I must keep the door open in order to stop the humming.
Do I need a new start switch or is something else wrong? Thanks!
if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part

hate to be the bearer of bad news but it sounds like ur motor is going out. Had this happen to my last dryer. If this is the case it will eventually just stop. Try running it without any laundry in it. if this works, then load it and see if it still works. (poor little motor has to work a bit harder with a full load) good luck.

your drain pump is likely clogged, and is equipped with a clean out port. remove lower cover by 3 phillips screws on bottom front. you see the drain pump up front to the right. If there is a lot of water left in machine then have bucket/pan avail and plenty of towels. wet dry shop vac helps. you can open door and remove clothes from here. reach up on right side to where the latch is on inside (you have to go by feel) and find small round pull tab on bottom of latch/lock asm, and pull down, this will unlock door. carefull of water level when opening door.
to fix problem, unscrew cap on pump asm. water will pour out, and a tray will slide out with debris clogging pump. look inside housing for remaining ****. using finger check impeller area on right..
reassemble. machine should work perfect now. Pump is designed to be cleaned out and will not void warranty. newer machines have access port cut in panel for this clean out area.

SOURCE: Broken knob on GE washer
There are four separate parts that make up the knob dial. You can pull off the knob if you use a screwdriver/pliers to remove the clip holding it on. Check if the mounting areas appear stripped or broken. There should also be a compression ring in the mounting hole on the back of the knob. That's what may be broken or stripped. These are all parts that you can get from a local parts store (check the phone book) and you can do it yourself. Any of those parts should cost less than $10. The bad news is if you stripped the pole coming out of the timer assembly. You would need to replace the entire assembly which costs about $130. If you call a GE repairman, you are looking at $89.95 or more just to have them show up. If it is still under warranty, there is no charge. You can call them to verify this:

Hello Heather Holley - The signal will sound when the cycle ends and briefly every five minutes as it is a reminder to remove the load. For this purpose, unfortunately the buzzer signal cannot be disable. Most of this brands laundry centers and microwaves are preset to do this.
