Question about JVC RX-8010V Receiver

Open Question

Jvc 8010vbk sound only works when direct link is activated and when in analog mode. is there some wrong with the digital processing unit and can it be fixed with a replacement part.

im thinking the reciever is set to get its audio from somehwere other than the dvd, sounds like you did most of the troubleshooting but do you get audio out of the reciever if its just playing the radio or something other than a dvd?

I'd suspect one of the controls that would be overriden by analog direct is unknowingly activated. LOOK at the front panel and interpret every indicator for how it could cause silence. Refer to the manual for those you don't understand.

Any Tape Monitor activation would disable digital sources completely.

Would I be able to connect Yamaha eq 70 equalizer to Yamaha av receiver RX-V1800 Thanks.


Be advised that the engagement of any device in a Tape Monitor loop on a late-model Audio/Video Receiver will effectively tie the receiver down to stereo-only analog sound reproduction. I'll explain.

The connections themselves are fairly simple but it pays to understand what happens in the loop.

In general, any Line-Level external processor (EQ, dynamic range expander, etc) will go into a Tape Monitor loop on a receiver. A Tape Monitor, when engaged, sends the stereo analog signal Out to the Processor, massages it and returns it to the receiver via the Tape Monitor IN connectors to be passed on to the receiver's internal processes (volume, tone, whatever).

Old school analog stereo-only receivers consistently work this way. Newer digital and audio/video receivers introduce a couple of problems: 1) digital sound processing to simulate a variety of soundfields; 2) multiple output channels, either discrete or digitally-generated.

The latter requires that whatever signal is being processed experiences a maximum of one analog-digital-analog conversion.

EVERYTHING analog coming into the modern digital receiver is automatically converted to a digital signal for internal processing unless you choose some form of STEREO-only or STEREO-Direct setting. Consequently, no further external analog-digital conversions would be allowed if, say, a Tape Monitor circuit was activated, and a possible feedback loop could otherwise be created in a digital-sourced selection (output to its own input), so the unit is wired to treat the Tape Monitor as the first analog step in the process and defeats any pure digital sources.

How can i hook a eq to this reciever to play through all my components not just the tape or cd player?? I was told jumpers but i am not sure on this


I assume you have it connected traditionally in the Tape loop and understand how that works. ANY 2-channel analog source will work with the EQ engaged.
I'm guessing you have digital sources you want to process. Ain't gonna happen. See page 19 of the manual. Note at the bottom.

Hello: I just purchased a DBX 128 and have no idea how to connect it up. I would like to listen to my records as well as tape using the expansion mode. However, it seems like it only hooks up to my tape...

Okay, back to the hook-up: Receiver Tape- or VCR Out to the External Processor (EQ, whatever) Preamp-, Amp-, Tape- or Rec-In jacks; Receiver Tape- or VCR In from the External Processor (EQ, whatever) Preamp-, Amp-, Tape- or Rec-Out jacks.

If you actually want to use an analog recording deck you could place it within the typical Equalizer's own Tape Monitor loop(s). Many have two to facilitate equalized dubbing between decks.

Lost sound programing on my Yamaha 5850 receiver some how can not figure out what went wrong. Do have sound on tuner. When doing setup testing speakers work. Any idea's what I'm doing wrong?


What do you mean by "sound programming"? -- I guess it's the ability to change the sound processing, such as from Stereo to Dolby Digital, or to Dolby Pro Logic or Virtual Surround, etc.? Maybe there's a "Direct" or "Pure" or "Tone Control Defeat" button that was pushed, which often (or always!) bypasses all the sound-processing circuits? Check the front panel and/or your remote for such a button and try that.
If it's a DVD player, it may be that the audio connections were accidently pulled or changed. Assuming it's the latter (more likely): Either the digital/analog output setting of the DVD player or the setup of the receiver could have been changed. Next, this is a guess, but most likely, it is the receiver that was tweaked -- in order to listen to some other source (such as the tuner), and it is no longer set up to process the digital signal, but stays in analog mode -- AND there's no analog audio connection from the DVD player (or it was not set-up to output analog to the receiver, since the preferred signal is digital surround). Am I getting warm?
