SOURCE: Superwinch LT2000 will only work one way? Help?

you may have burned the controller a winch works by reversing the polarity remove the two nuts on the winch itself that the wires go to and reverse the wires now your winch should only work in the other direction if this is the case amazon.com has some pretty reasonable priced controllers

Wire a winch

The 1585202 winch is capable of pulling 8500 pounds when provided adequate DC power. With no load (winding up slack the cable) the motor requires 84 amps and winds at 18 feet / second. When fully loaded (8500 pounds), the motor requires in excess of 320 amps and winds at 3.5 feet / second. That's an awfully large amount of current and it will need heavy duty power supply cables to work without overheating or melting insulation. I suspect your 1585200 is the same model with same electrical requirements, but did not include a fairlead, mounting plate, etc..

Superwinch has wiring kit #2007 for front mount (5 foot cables) and #2008 for trailer mounts (25 foot cables) and can simplify the installation with other accessories as well. They're a U.S. company and can be contacted them directly:

I havea LP8500 superwinch. I unhooked the cover wires RED,WHITE and Black and I can remember how they go back onto the solenoids. can you help me. thanks mark

This may help (or maybe not):
The Black wire is the ground wire, and the other two are considered Hot wires, and their
order does not matter - they carry 240 Volts AC.
So, once you identify which terminal on the solenoid is ground, connect Black to it, then just hook up the remaining two Hot wires in any order.

When I try and use the winch all I get is a clicking sound from the control box. The winch motor will not engage in or out. When the winch clutch is placed in the out position I can free spool the cable...

It sounds like you have broken a pinion tooth. Remove the screw from the end housings and open to inspect the drive gears. Parts can be purchased from Superwinch for these or off e-Bay.
