Your touchpad is very sensitive. Be sure to keep your fingers away from it when typing. I have the same problem with my Toshiba laptop--I decided that unless I was in a travelling situation, I would use a small wireless mouse. I just disabled the touchpad.

I had this problem for ever. After a lot of frustration and research, what I found was, this is common error for all kinds of Windows laptops that have a touchpad.

I found a work around, which was to install a utility called "touchfreeze" from Google code. This utility will lock down the cursor while typing and so will avoid the jumping around problem. This is a small utility that sits in the system tray and does not create any overload for the laptop and it does the job well.

See this article for more details about the cursor jumping problem and the solution:http://www.mywindowsclub.com/resources/4...

How do i fix keystrokes that jump backward as I type?

Some Lenovo touchpads are over sensitive and they cause the cusor to slip or jump around. In Control Panel select Mouse or Touchpad. A box will open and you can locate touchpad Properties and adjust the sensitivity. Lenovo also has updated touchpad software/drivers for one or two of the most troublesome models. i was able to reduce the cursor jumping around quite a bit by adjusting the sensitivity, but i still don't think it's a good design.

Cursor jumps into a previously-typed word or line and emails won't open

which email account ??

Acer laptop computers come with built-in touchpads to control cursor movement onscreen. Depending on the sensitivity and settings of the touchpad, it may register undesired motions as mouse controls, causing the cursor to jump erratically. The software drivers that Acer includes with its systems have sensitivity options that help alleviate this problem and ensure that only deliberate touchpad motions and taps cause the cursor to move.

Click on the Start menu and open the Control Panel. Choose an "Icon View" option from the "View by" dropdown menu, then click the "Mouse" icon. Navigate to the "Device Settings" tab and click on the Synaptics device in the list. If you have installed and use custom software other than a Synaptics application for controlling the touchpad, select it instead. Click the "Settings" button. Click the "+" symbol to expand the "Pointing" section in the left frame, and then the "Sensitivity" section. Click on "PalmCheck." If you have replaced the Synaptics drivers, the menu may use a different set of options. Click and drag the bar to the right, closer to the "Maximum" setting. An increased PalmCheck setting will help decrease cursor jumping due to accidental palm activations, a common occurrence when typing. Click on "Touch Sensitivity." Click and drag the bar to the right, closer to the "Heavy Touch" end. This will ensure light brushes by fingers or accidental activations by other objects will not cause the cursor to jump. Click "Apply" to test the settings, and "OK" when satisfied to save the changes and close the window.

Runaway touchpad on HP laptop.

I have the same problem. An external mouse does not behave erratically. If the touchpad is wearing out, will a replacement touchpad solve the problem, or does the circuit board need replacing?

When i type in my MS word or replying mail using outlook, my cursor jumps to somewhere, actually it just happened several times when i type this message

On your touch pad exists a place that works like a scroller on the mouse (Usually the right part of pad with white lining). When you rest your wrists in this area, the cursor usually jumps in another place. I'm of course hoping that this is the problem and that your touch pad works fine. Try it and please tell me if this fails..

My cursor jumps around when I am typing. On Word or any one of my email sites

Hi booghug,

Jumping cursor on your laptop can be fixed by any of the two options. It's either by adjusting some settings of your tocuhpad or by uninstalling/reinstalling it's driver.

Here's how:
  • Go to Control Panel and then click on Mouse.
  • Inside mouse properties look for the option that says, Tap off when typing.
  • Put a check mark on the box before this to enable.
  • Then hit on Apply then, OK. Restart your computer.
If after doing this you have noticed that you're still getting the same issue, reinstall the driver for your touchpad.
  • Click on th link to get the driver for your touchpad. Y410 Touchpad Driver
  • Look for Touchpad and underneath it you'll see drivers. Select the one for your operating system (ex. Windows Vista 32bit).
  • Then, click on download here.
  • Once the download is complete, install the driver for your Tocuhpad.
  • Lastly, make sure to restart your PC id the system prompted you to.
After reinstalling the driver do again the procedure in changing the properties for your Touchpad. This should resolve the problem. Hope this helps.

Thank you for using Fixya.

When I am typing he cursor jumps around

It is a fault with Lenovo laptops. My cursor jumps all the time, no matter what software I am using. It is NOT the 'sensitivity' of the touchpad, for my cursor jumps even when I am not typing, even if I don't touch the laptop! I can set the cursor to a certain point on a document and then, after about 30 seconds, it will just jump to another point, even if I am in another room.

Cursor(pointer) cannot be moved by using touchpad but possibe wit

Hi,

This happens to me also. Check whether the touchpad is enabled (laptops do have an option of enabling / disabling the touchpad). Secondly, you can try reinstalling the touchpad driver. Uninstall and then re-install the driver. Re-boot the system. Try using the touchpad.

Hope this helps., if so, rate me.. thanks - billa

Cursor jumps erratically

Most likely, your wrist is gently touching the touchpad, and your computer is interpreting it as a 'tap,' and it so happens your cursor was located several lines up.
Or if you use a separate mouse, is it on a wood or uneven surface? This will cause it to jump up those few lines and again, your wrist (or if you have big hands like I do, the bottom of your thumbs) will tap it.
