Instead of going for the big deal, I'd start small. Look at the drives first. I'm in the process of rebuilding a Masterlink, and I got the "178" error after installing the new 30GB HDD because I left the jumper in the factory position ("Cable Select"). I repositioned the jumper to "Master" and no more error. The CD drive is currently out of the unit (being replaced) and that's creating a 277 error. I'm assuming once the replacement CD drive is installed (tonight) that will go away too. Replacement hard disks and cd-rw drives are cheap- . I'd try swapping them out and/or examining the jumpers and cables before assuming you need more expensive electronic repairs.... Good luck! I may need it too!

After reviewing the repair and owners manuals. I have come to the conclusion that there is a short in the power supply board. Your drives should be fine. I don't know off hand how expensive it is to fix in your area. I would say approx $200

Look for cold solder joints on the power supply.

I have hd error 177 what do i do

i am not to sure about the different errors on the masterlink but i know it is not much more that the hard drive that can go bad it them.
first try reloading the o.s. this helps sometimes. you can get the latest o.s. from the alesis site.
if the issue persists, change the hard drive.
you can get a good 30 or 40 gig from ebay.

Starts up wth this error. the HD/CD doesn't fix it. Please help.

reload the os. it is avail on the alesis site.
the o.s. may be corrupted and a reflash is what it needs. if the issue persist, the HD may need to be replaced.

you will need to burn an image cd for the masterlink. most cd programs can do this. if you cant, send me an email.

Upon turning on our Masterlink, it read "LOAD OS".

if you are computer savy, you can disassemble the masterlink and test the cd drive in another computer. if it works, check the power connector to the cd drive. switch it with the hd connector to see if it fires up.

keep use posted.

I tried the "pressing play/pause and record simultaneously" during power
up, and it worked.....dunno for how long. The unit still makes strange
noises occasionally and doesn't seem completely healthy, but it's up
and I'm copying files that I want to save. We'll see.

New HD -- You could try to press play/rec on the boot up --may reset ...but, doubtful... Try to replace with a new 30gb drive > nothing larger.
