SOURCE: map loading from SD card

Yes go to the Lowrance web site and down load the fix to a sd card , put the sd card in the i finder and it will update it automaticlly. I have not done it for map create 7.0 but have for map create 6.3. On the web site look under suport or downloads and you should find it. There is also a lot of free lake maps that you can download to sd card also. Good luck

it is in the box it came with, on the back of the instruction book.
If you did not buy it 'new in the box', you will have to refer to the 'activation' code sent to you email.
The Garmin Nuvi 760 does not require SD card maps if you are using it in the US, btw...

SOURCE: Why cant I download my waypoint data to a 2 GB SD

You can place the SD card into the slot beside the chart card.

With the SD card in the GlobalMap unit by itself (take the chart card out), press MENU twice and choose BROWSE FILES. Does the unit indicate that an SD card is present? If yes, the card is working fine in that slot. Try the same thing in the other slot. If it only recognizes the SD card in one of the slots, the other slot is bad and probably won't work with any card. If the card is recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu, but the data that is on the card is not working, there could be compatibility issues with the data and the GlobalMap 5000.

Make sure the GlobalMap 5000 has the latest software update from http://www.lowrance.com/en/Products/Legacy-Products/GlobalMap-5000C/Downloads/GlobalMap-5000C-Software-Update-180/. You might need to get a different, smaller capacity card since your 2GB is not working.

If the 2GB SD card still isn't recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu after the update, the GlobalMap 5000 is not going to work with that 2GB card. You will want to get a different card. I suggest 1GB and smaller.

If this doesn't help, please let me know some more details. Is the 2GB SD card recognized in the BROWSE FILES menu. What are you seeing that makes you determine it does not recognize this card? What files are currently on this card? What kind of card is it (brand, model).

I never had a sd/mmc card when I got my Maestro 3200, should I get one and what is it for

Yes you should! Go out and buy at least a 2GB and backup your device I didn't and now I don't have any maps at all! Trust me its worth the 15 bucks! Magellan explained to me that they do not produce this model anymore and flat out told me to just buy a new one.

How to update your Garmin Satnav maps

To update your garmin satnav map you must have your satnav registered. If it's already registered skip to paragraph 2 below.

1. To Register your Garmin Satnav
  • Connecty our satnav to your computer and go to www.garmin.com
  • Select your country
  • Click on Register your garmin product
  • Follow the prompts
Note you will be asked to create a username and password. Write them down and keep them safe as you'll need them again anytime you want to update your maps

2. To update your maps

  • Connect your satnav to your computer and go to www.garmin.com
  • Click on myGarmin and log in
  • Click on myMaps.
  • If there's an update available it will be shown beside the name of your map.
  • Click on Get Update and follow the prompts.
Note map files are large so you'll need a broadband connection to download them. If you don't have broadband you'll have an option to buy the update on DVD.

  1. If The Map Is Too Large To Install To Your Satnav
When you go to download the map by default it tries to download it to the satnav i.e. not the SD/Mini SD card. You need to change this. When the website recognises the satnav follow the prompts. It will give you 3 options for the download destination.
    • Download to satnav,
    • Download to Computer and Satnav or
    • Download to computer.
As the website is updated, from time to time, the method of selecting the download destination changes. Sometimes it shows up as a drop box with a drop-down arrow showing your satnav name. Click the drop-down arrow and select the option to download the map to your computer. Sometimes it shows the 3 options as text headings with tick boxes beside them and you get to tick the option you want. Whichever way it shows up select the option to download the map to your computer. This will install it on your computer's hard drive.

  2. After it's downloaded the map should begin to install automatically. (If not double click on it and it will). It should be allowed to install to your satnav first as Garmin will not allow it to install to your SD/Mini SD card unless it's first partly installed to the satnav. This is so they can ensure that it's installed to the correct satnav.

  3. To Install The Full Map To Your SD/Mini SD Card
To install the map to your SD/Mini SD card, insert the card into the card slot of your satnav and connect it to the computer. Click the windows start button on your computer. Then click the GARMIN progam and then MAPINSTALL. This runs the map installation program. When the install program finds your satnav and you get the option to install the map there again by default. Click on the drop-down arrow, where it shows your satnav as the destination, and select the drive letter of the SD/Mini SD card. This will be different to the drive letter for your satnav. The map will then be installed to your SD/Mini SD card.

  4. Problems With Older Nuvi Satnavs Reading Maps On 4 Gb Or Higher SD Cards
When you install a map to an SD card older nuvi satnavs can have difficulty getting the satnav to read it. It will install to it without problem but when you try to operate the satnav then it cannot load the map and will close down the satnav unless you remove the SD card. The reason for this is that 4 Gb and higher cards are SDHC which operate differently from SD. To solve this problem you should use a class 2 SDHC card, which is the slowest type available. You can identify the class by the small figure on the card. It will be either 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10. Before you install the map format the card as described below. Also use webinstaller to check that you have the latest version of operating software on your satnav.

  5. Format the SD card with "Panasonic SD Formatter" available from http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter20.html rather than the standard windows format function. Select the fast format option and be sure you have selected the drive letter of your SDHC card as it will format your hard drive or indeed your satnav just as easily if you select one of them by mistake.

  6. To update your software or check that you have the latest version, you can download webupdater from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
Connect your satnav to the computer and run the program. It will search for any updates to your software.
Class 2 SDHC cards are harder to find in shops today as they are being replaced by the faster classes. They are however still easily available on ebay if you can't find one in the shops.

I am in india and i want india map where i can buy

You can buy the map from the garmin website. You need to have your satnav registered. If it's not registered this is how to register it;
  • Connect your satnav to your computer
  • Go to www.garmin.com
  • Select your country from the drop-down list
  • Click on the "myGarmin" tab at the top of the screen
  • Click on "Register your garmin product"
  • Click on "Automotive" and follow the prompts
You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them to buy or update maps. Before buying the map of India take a look at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps where you'll find information on how to save your map to your computer or a memory card if you want to keep the map that's already on your satnav. If you download it directly to your satnav you may overwrite the map that's already on it.

When your satnav is registered;
  • Connect your satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead
  • Go to www.garmin.com
  • Click on the myGarmin tab at the top of the page and log in using your username and password
  • Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the screen
  • On the left side of the screen, click on "Shop for more maps"
  • Click on "View additional maps for this product"
  • Scroll down to the map of India and click on "Download" if you want to download it or MICRO SD/SD if you want to buy it on a memory card.
  • Follow the prompts.

My garmin nuvi 205 is in american but i live in the uk how do i change it

If it's the map you want to change you'll need to buy the UK map. To do this you need to have it registered.

To register your garmin nuvi satnav connect it to your computer.
Go to www.garmin.com
Select your country from the drop-down list
Click on the myGarmin tab at the top of the page
Click on "Register your garmin device"
Select "automotive"
Follow the prompts

You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them if you need to update your maps later

When it's registered Log into your account.
Click on the myMaps tab
This will bring you to a screen where you have the option to buy more maps. Buy UK and Ireland or Western Europe. Don't go for the complete map of Europe as it will not fit on your satnav. If you download the new map to your satnav it will overwrite the map already on it. If you want to save the American map you can install the new map to an SD card. You'll need to download it to your computer and then install it on the SD card. Details on how to do this are at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps
There's more information there than you'll need but it gives very detailed information on installing maps to an SD card.

To change the voice from American English to British English;
Press TOOLS (the spanner symbol)
Press SETTINGS (the spanner symbol) or LOCALE if there's not a settings icon on your satnav.
Press LANGUAGE (the lips icon)
Where you see VOICE press it and select a British voice.

Where can I buy a map card with the United Kingdom info be bought in Canada?

Go to www.garmin.com and if you've registered your satnav log into myGarmin.
Click on the myMaps tab at the top of the page.
There you will see the maps on your satnav and you'll have the option to buy new maps.
When you're downloading the map be sure to download it to your computer and NOT your satnav. Otherwise you'll overwrite the map already on the satnav.

When it's downloaded click the windows START button and you'll find a folder called GARMIN. Click this and you'll find an item called MAPINSTALL. Use this to install the map to an SD card which you must have inserted into your satnav. It's best to use a 2Gb SD card not an SDHC. Again be sure you do not install the map to your satnav but to the memory card. You get the option of where the map will be installed during the set up process.

If you have not registered your satnav you can do so by going to www.garmin.com. Click on the drop-down arrow and select your country. Click on myGarmin and then on REGISTER YOUR GARMIN DEVICE. You'll be asked to create a username and password. Keep them safe as you'll need them anytime you need to update your maps or buy new ones.
There's more information on installing maps at http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps if you need more help.

I cannot access any of the maps I loaded onto my SD card

First of all, the maps must be created and match the serial number of the GPS you will run it on. Next the maps must be transferred to the SD card in the directory /MAP_DATA The GPS always looks at this directory for any map.
