Unlike some of the other responses you have recived this one may actually be helpful to solving your problem. There are actually 4 diffrent modules in this unit that could be causing this problem. The control logic board is pretty much the brain of the unit. It tells the Y-sus board what to send to the X and Y drives. The x and y drives are the modules responsible for what you see on the panel(or the picture you see) I as a technician cannot tell you which of these modules is causing the problem without physically troubleshooting the signal path. But to answer your question you either have a bad control board= $125.00,a bad Y-sus board=$287.00,or a bad X-drive or a bad Y-drive=$175.00.If you order one of these boards you still may have the same problem.Your guess is as good as mine at this point, but a good service shop in your area could eliminate the guess work and have your unit up and running in no time.

First of all, let me appologise for the responses thus far. There is no CRT nor any adjustments on the "back of the tube". Also, there is no effect on the set of any magnetic fields generated by speakers.

That being said, the problem you describe is likely to be a defective processing board. Rather than start there however, since the set is no longer under warranty, open up the back and remove and reinsert all cables and connectors. The digital signal levels are so small, that it takes only slightly poor connection to introduce noise in the signal. While a long shot, it is possible that a connection problem can cause this symptom.

In the meantime, I'll look up the part numbers for you.

Please update this with the results of the connections.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi.. its better not to mount ur tv on wall and place it in any flat surface. the reason for some alternating lines is that some capacitor circuits would have got damaged. if you consult any electircian he would try to remove those lines by means of grabbing a magnet over that shaded area. so that ur problem might get solved.

On a tv like that id send it to a shop and have it repaired and not do any guesswork if its still that new. people can tell you all kinds of things are wrong with it but you would be better off sending it to a professional and letting them fix it right the first time,,,

Hope your tv is under warranty. Contact the manufacturer. I would try disconnecting the TV and put it out on your porch for 20 minutes(assuming its cold outside).. Sometimes this helps if their is a circuit board problem.

From your description I feel that you are talking about line tear , if you have access to line hold ,or horiz hold, or hor freq controls then a small adjustment may cure it.
If this doesn't cure it try unplugging it for at least 4 hours. This is called a Hard Reset.
Either one of these should cure it.
If neither one of these suggestions work that means the vertical deflection system, probably the amplifier, has failed

usually the adjustments for the tube are in teh back of teh televison. You must remove the back cover to access them

After studying my repair and owners manuals, I have came to the conclusion that one of the system boards needs to be replaced by a certified technician. This is not a problem that can be fixed with adjustments.

After further investigating I've come to realize that your RESISTOR PACKS are shot

  • Nate Stansfield
    Nate Stansfield Jan 24, 2009

First try to remove back panel off tv. then find adjusting screws for you picture. NOTE position before adjusting so you can go back to the same exact one if it didn't work. If none of these adjustments correct your line problem then it is due to hardware failure. Most likely your packs.

I'm not sure if this model is the one that has resistors that go bad. You can actually purchase a pack of resistors in a kit. It will come with solder, the resistors and instructions. You can lay the tv out and take the circuit board out to find the blown components, and replace the bad ones. Takes about an hour start to finish and will cost around $65.00. It has been a few years since I did this, so I'm not sure on the price.

It will depend on the age of the set but the lines are either a bad board or a bad display unit .

Try re-seating your upper and lower buffer board connectors. These boards run the length of the set on top and bottom. Since your line is from the top going down I would check that one. The connector will be close to where the line is showing up on the screen.
