Possible system file corruption, or bios problem,,I personaly would get it over with and just re-install windows. and go from there.

Blue screen states updating windows on #9 out of 10 wont move just stuck there

You can try to force a shutdown, then reboot the machine and go into safe mode. If it boots in safe mode, let it stabilize for a few then reboot normally, If it acts up on you, try to run system restore and back the computer up a few days before the updates occured.

Laptop wont start windows xp pro. goes to a blue

Take one memory stick out and test. Then do the other. Also checking each memory slot.

If not solved. When the computer starts, continually press F8 until you get startup menu- select SAFE MODE and fix the driver or software that is in startup
or

Roll back to last known configuration that worked.

While you are there- disable Auto Reboot on Failure.

Toshiba laptop, xp, wont start up.

Perhaps the shutdown corrupted a critical Windows startup file. Have you tried a Windows repair? You'll need the Windows XP CD to do it. An explanation is here: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm#RI

Startup issue

Ok, that rules out the problem some systems with an AMD processor have with SP3.

Before we try anything else, unplug the computer, remove the battery and leave it like this for a few minutes. But the battery back, plug it in and try it.

If that does not work you will need you windows CD.
Put it in the drive & boot to the CD
You need to press R and go to the recovery console
type chkdsk /r
If this does not work, repeat and this time type fixboot

For solving blue screen error

HP Notebook PCs - "Windows Unsafe or Sudden Shutdown" Blue Screen Error Occurs During Startup or Boot

Description
Windows XP may not start and the following error message may appear on a blue screen:
Windows Unsafe or Sudden Shutdown
This error occurs after Windows was not shutdown using a safe method. The notebook may have been turned off without clicking Shut Down or briefly pressing the computers Power button. The power may have been suddenly disconnected from the computer or the Power button may have been held for more than 5 seconds.
An unsafe shutdown can damage some of the Windows system files, preventing the computer from starting properly.
Solution
If the error occurs allow the operating system to complete a check of the hard disk. Windows will prompt your to run CHKDSK. CHKDSK scans the hard drive for damaged files and repairs the files if necessary. The scan may take up to an hour depending on the size of the hard drive and the number of damaged files. The computer will restart when the scan is complete and Windows should start normally.
If Windows will not start or the computer will not boot after the scan is complete see: HP Notebook PCs - Troubleshooting a Startup or No Boot Problem (In English)
