You have to use the webstyle interface to accress the settings on the router.. click start then cmd... in the new window type ipconfig..type the default gateway address in your internet explorer browser it will look like once you do that you will be in the router and can set up wep encryption.. you will need to add that new key to every computer and device on your network.. wireless printer, laptops .. everything.. keep the number you create safe so you dont have to do it all over again if you cant find it someday.

How do I find my wifi password

if this is the first time setup, then you would consult the docs that came with it for the 'default' password.

If not, then you can log-in to the Router, (which requires yet another password...) and look at it, or at the least allow you to change it to something else.

I would like to know my password

Most routers let you log in by putting their IP address into the address bar of the web browser. however this can be done wireless but probably in your case, you might have to hard line to the router. linksys and cisco use and I think netgear and d-link use and Belkin uses routers require you to use login id and password before they let you use the interface. with older cisco and linksys routers it is usually ID/password admin/admin or admin/password. newer routers have unique login Id's and passwords that are generally located on a sticker on the bottom or the back of a router. once you log in, you want to go to a setting such as wireless security where it states what kind of wifi protection you have...WEP...etc. and that is where your wifi password is located....or just manufacture reset the router and follow the steps as mentioned earlier.

They keep saying i am keying in the wrong wireless password. Is this the router password or am i suppose to find another one. please help

My Linksys wireless router uses a different password to setup a wireless connection with the SSID (wireless account name) than the password for logging into the router for administrative purposes.

So I suspect you need a different password. However, without knowing which make/model of router you have, I can't help you identify where to find the information for your wireless setup.

Please add a comment with your router information for additional assistance.

I hope this helps.

I want to password protect my router

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to make you connection secure the you need to set a Network Key on your router and need to access the Wireless Settings Page.

To access the router page just open a browser then type, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security You can select either WEP, WPA or WPA2 to make it secure and under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Generate a personalize key for your network.

If this works dont forget to say thanks. Thanks for using Fixya.

I purchased my wireless G 2.4 GHz broadband router a few years ago, and would like to allow my guests to use my protected network; however I don't know my key. How do I find out what my key is so I can...

Hello ,
Its better you can get into your wifi setting by or and check whether the key is visible in characters, coz in most of the wifi setting it used to be in this type * . So if it appears like that you can dissable your security settings for sometime. And when you get into your wifi setting it may ask for your password , the default one is USER ID: admin Password: password or admin

How do i lock my linksys router so no one can connect to my wifi.

To lock it, you need to password protect it.

On a computer connected to the linksys now.

Click the link below

On the page that comes up, it will ask for a username and password.

type in admin for the password, leave the username blank

You are inside the router..

Click on wireless, then right under it click on wireless security.

Where it says authentication, click it and change it to wpa2 psk

Where it says, PSK / Passphrase / Or Network key .. There is a text box to the right

In that text box is where You will have to type in a new password, and click apply / save settings.

Then.. The router will restart..

You have now set your wireless password.

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

Forgot password to WiFi How do I find out what it

To find the password/passphrase on the Linksys router, connect a PC to one of it's Ethernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URL This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router. On older models the username is left blank and the password is “admin”. On newer models, both the username and password is “admin”.

Once you get in to the router management tool, look for the security portion. There you will find the password or passphrase you are using for your WEP or WPA security encryption.
