Im sure you've tried adjusting the video playback settings in the menu, so I suggest downloading a
free video conversion software called Ipod Video Converter. It serves only one purpose and that is to convert most video files into apple ipod video format. It supports the most common formats such as avi, divx, mpg, flv, xvid and so on. Just add videos that you want to convert to the Ipod video converter or select youtube videos and click on convert when everything has been added. The process does not take long and the best feature of this software is that it works fine with the default settings. No need to tweak them in any way. Excellent for beginners.

1. You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
2. Press and hold the following combination of buttons buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
* iPod 1G to 3G: “Menu” and “Play/Pause”
* iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): “Menu” and “Select”
3. The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
o iPod 1G to 3G: “REW”, “FFW” and “Select”
o iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): “Back” and “Select”
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode.
4. Navigate the list of tests using “REW” and “FFW”. The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode.

DIAGNOSTIC MODE,This will allow you to test the video mode on the ipod,if video doesn't work in diagnostic mode, then the firmware or hardware is bad.

Hi. there might me be some problem in ur video chord.

  • Anonymous Jan 19, 2009

first try getting the real A/V cable and then if it doesnt work send it back to apple. sure u wil get a replacement

  • Anonymous Jan 19, 2009

apple switched the ground contact, which is usually bottom on the 3rd party AV cable. if u switch around the cables and move the plug slightly out of the jack, all u wil get is a audio and not video thing.unless u re solder the wires to the corresponding contacts

Try resetting the ipod by holding the menu and center buttons together for about 10-15 seconds while it is on.

My 30GB ipod Video wont restore. it says connect to the computer to restore, i do, it cannot completely restore it though. Any ideas?

Did you just plug it in or did you actually go through the Five Rs?
Use the Five Rs to restore the iPod. You will lose the data that is currently on it if you restore but you can always re-sync the data to the iPod. http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/

My 30gb ipod is locked

restore your ipod, it will solve the problem.
Here is the REAL solution. Ending ipodservice.exe will NOT WORK.

1) Plug your ipod into the computer using firewire or USB.
2) Open MY COMPUTER
3) Wait until the ipod shows up as a drive letter
4) Right click on the ipod drive letter and do a ' quick format ' (Now the ipod is just a plain windows hard drive)
5) When it is complete, run the ipod updater and do a Restore. This puts the ipod software back onto it
6) Remove the ipod from the usb or firewire port, plug it into the wall power supply and allow it to finish the update

If I've helped one person, then I'm happy.

No sound from my 30GB ipod in the car and Bose sound dock

It sounds like an issue with the internal motherboard and possibly the audio jack. I'd reccomend taking it into a local apple store to have them fix it or contacting them via their support website here. Also you may want to consider their price quotes vs purchasing a new one when you talk to them.

No vedio

I just checked the apple site. To reset an iPod turn the on/off switch on and off and then hold down the menu and center button until you see the apple symbol. According to apple, that should reset it.

Unlock my Apple iPod 30GB

From Apple:

----------------------------
Connect your iPod to the primary computer you use it with (the first one iPod synced with), and open iTunes. When you disconnect iPod from the computer, it will no longer be locked. If you can't unlock iPod using either [the code or connecting it to the computer you use to manage its songs]. . . you can restore your iPod to factory settings using iPod Updater. Please note that this will erase all data on your iPod. Afterwards, you can add your music and data back to your iPod. If you want to change the primary computer that your iPod is associated with, do this: 1. Restore your iPod. Warning: The restore process cannot be undone. All of your songs and files will be deleted. Always make a backup of your important data. 2. Connect your iPod to the computer that you want to be the primary computer. 3. Open iTunes and synchronize.----------------------------

Try restoring your iPod, it seems like that should solve it. Make sure you don't have anything on your iPod you need, because restoring it erases all data off the iPod.
