There are usally 2 or 4 resistors that have to be changed out after replacing the amps. You can identify them by their discoloration.Should be brownish and burned. They are in the area of the amps. The value is 6.8 ohms.

I have a Philips 60 in. rear projection model# 60PP9020/17F made in sept. '04. There is a green arc across the bottom half of the screen. At the top everything lines up. I tried to use the multi point...

As you look from the back the chips are on the board on the far left; black and each mounted side by side on metal plates with fins--this model should use 2 of the STK-392-120 CHIPS.

I buy mine on EBAY---select advanced search, search by seller---sewsales55 is the seller I use. This is Suburban Electronics in Maryland (they also have a online catalog) and a pair of the chips should cost under 15 dollars from them.

If this helped, rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

I HAVE A BLUE ARC AT THE BOTTOM OF MY SCREEN

Your TV most likely has a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

Picture of a set that needs the fluid changed.

Arcs at the Top and Bottom of the screen!

You will find small 1/2 or 1watt resistors close to the ic's, you must measure them and they must be exact ohms. I believe you'll find a couple open or have changed in value, I hope the new Ic's haven't been fatigued. That should fix your problem.

60" TV has an arc in the pic

Check the fuses 1007 & 1405. If they are blown in will cause an Arc.

Note: If the screen shrinks/expands you may need a chip kit from www.repairkits.com

SPEED BUMP OR BOWING

Your convergence chips and convergence resistors are going bad. When they fail the screen colors will look distorted/3d looking. Another symptom is one or more colors can't be converged using the convergence menu. You can purchase the parts over the internet. Just make sure you get Sanyo brand convergence chips and the correct flame proof resistors. You can also check the site www.TvRepairKits.com for a kits.  Just make sure you replace both of the convergence chips and all of the convergence resistors.

Usually this means convergence ic's have to be replaced and possibly a few resistors on small convergence board. Sometimes it requires digital alignment after new parts are soldered in. This repair can cost 175.00-375.00.
