Yes, you can upgrade from Win98 to WinXP. The minimum hard drive requirements for WinXP is 1.5GB and the minimum RAM requirement is 64MB. You will also need a CD ROM for the install. Now those are the minimum requirements so don't expect it to go very fast. If possible I would recommend you upgrade to Win2000. WinXP and Win2000 are almost identical. The minimum hard drive for Win2000 is 650MB and for RAM it is 64MB. So you could still use your 4GB hard drive and have plenty of room. You will need a CD ROM for the Win2000 also.
Good luck if you have anymore questons let me know,

I would not recommend you trying to install XP on this machine. The memory maxes out at 192 MB--not near enough to adequately run Windows XP which should have 1GB to run really well. It will function adequately with 512MB. Anything less, the system just drags. Couple this with the fact that you are running at 400 MHz with an Intel Celeron processor and a 66MHz bus speed, you will just be asking for trouble.

Can not find any place or panelon a toshiba satellite pro xcdt

Hi, are you sure you want to do this , replacing the processor is only feasable if its a plugin one and being that this is a pentium2 266mhz processor with edo ram and a very small hard drive , you may well be cheaper ,easier and better off buying a secondhand laptop from ebay or the like .

hope this helps

Internal Hard Disk Upgrade

Yes, there is. Match the type of drive (Serial ATA or Parallel ATA) you get with what you have. Make sure your Satellite sees the drive in the BIOS. For drives larger than 120 GB, recommend operating systems Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or higher) or Vista. Older OS's have a 137 GB limitation (they only see the first 137 GB of the hard drive despite its size).

Toshiba laptops satellite 4090

Hi, The laptop you purchased is an older model. It will use most any IDE laptop hard drive. The drive you mentioned from your Dell will work in it. You will need to pull the hard drive and put the sliders or hardware off the old one on to the new one. Look here for more info on your laptop. Look under portables.

check your manual on the maximum amount of memory your motherboard can handle. 192mb is rather very small. check online for your computers specs.
