If you are able to , open the burner box , the igniter has a thermocouple ( might look like a thick wire that would be in the flame if it were on). If it gets corroded or junked up it will not register the flames presence and will shut off the gas). Take an emory cloth and polish it. Hope it helps.
Thermostat flame sensor. Do you see a little rod next to the pilot? That is what tells the main gas valve that the pilot is lit and it is safe to give gas. Easy swap, and you can usually just pick up a generic one.
If you have a standing pilot that wont stay lit and you have to keep relighting it, it can only be a couple of things that will do this. 1. Try tighting the thermocouple at the gas valve. (this is a thin copper line that goes from the gas valve and goes to the pilot light.) 2. Make sure that the tip of the thermocouple is in the pilot light flame. 3. Make sure that the thermocouple is clean.
sounds like your thermacouplar is going out and needs replaced. Sometimes these will act like they are working fine , but when the pilot stays on for awhile and later goes out it is a sure sign that it is bad

How large and sealed of an area are you using it in? I ask because those units have a low oxygen sensor which will shut it down if there is not enough oxygen in the space.(kinda prevents that pesky suffocation thing). Otherwise if using it in larger cold spaces, the issue is can be from the smaller tanks. As mentioned above, a larger tank can solve this, because these units have a fairly good input rate, which will cause the smaller tanks to freeze, and lower the propane temperature and evaporation rate, basically runs out of gas until the tank warms back up.
