    Hi,

Is this a computername in Windows XP? Or is this a router name (SSID)? If it is a router, what brand and model number are you using?

    Thank you.

Changing your computer name (and Workgroup name, if desired)

  1. Close all applications and be sure that you are logged in with Administrator privileges
  2. Click Start then select the Control Panel
  3. Click Performance And Maintenance
  4. Click System
  5. Click on the Computer Name tab. Here the current Computer Name and Workgroup are displayed
  6. To change the Computer Name (or the Workgroup), click Change
  7. Enter a name for your computer in the Computer Name field (CYBERWORLD-2)
  8. If you wanted to change the workgroup, you would enter the name but I suggest you leave it as it is
  9. Click OK
  10. If you changed your Workgroup name, a window will welcome you to the new Workgroup
  11. Click OK
  12. When a window prompts you to restart the computer, click OK.
When you restart the computer, check your work - you should have the correct computer name (CYBERWORLD-2)

Thanks!

My new cisco E3000 router works fine for my labtop. but for my ipodtouch i doesn't let me on. It say's there is a passcode

Hello,
Its asking for the wireless security password by default it will be printed on the base of the router. If you haven't changed the default password then you can use that to connect to your wireless network using your ipod touch. If u have changed the password or you not able to find it then we need to log in to the router interface and retrieve it. 1) We need to log in to the router using the default gateway. Press windows + r u will get a run box..in the run box type CMD and hit enter. You will get a black screen. In the black screen type "ipconfig" and hit enter. Now you will see IP add/ sub net mask and defualt gateway. Make a note of your default gateway. 2) Open internet explorer or any browser and deleted everything from the address bar and type .."http://(default gateway..) (Ex: http://192.168.1.1) and hit enter. 3) Now you will be in the router interface. Now you will see either security or wireless click on the option and find something which says password or wireless security and click on that. 4) Now you will see your existing password. You can either make a note of it or change only the password or change the security type ( WEP or WPA) and click on OK/save. Now remeber that if u change the password you will have to reconnect all your wireless devices and if you are using the same network name( wireless name) then you have get a error on your computers or devices as the network doesnt match the requirements. Hence you can either delete the preferred network from your computer( if you want the same network name). To delete you can go to control panel and manage wireless network and delete the current network name and re-connect or you can change the network name( SSID ) on the router interface to a new name which is not saved on your computer and re-connect to your wireless network using all your devices.

Hope this helped

My laptop does not detect/recognize my 2wire every time my laptop shuts off. I have to manually find the wireless connection on the laptop. (It's a long process, not just clicking on find wireless...

the available wireless networks (you probably know how to do this) and then Your laptop is doing something wrong and several possibilities exist. Does your PC indicated that it is connected to "your" wireless network - but you are still unable to get to the internet? If so, your WAP Key is incorrect on your laptop. Go into your wireless connection manager (software) and find the stored "profiles" (Why? Each time you connect to a network and type in the network key, a profile is created to store the wireless network name and the key associated with it). If your PC is storing the name of your network along with an incorrect key, then your PC will not pass data back and forth to the router. So that's one solution. Another is may be that your PC is not connecting up to your 2-wire at all, but rather to a neighbors wireless router. You want to find the list of available wireless networks and individually select each network (not including your network) and then click on "delete". This will put a small red "x" right beside the name of the network and your PC will no longer try to connect to it. This is a very good way to troubleshoot because it will prevent your PC from connecting to any other wireless networks except for your own. Therefore if your router is going "up and down" it will be easier to identify the problem. So, a third possibility is that your router is going up and down. Sometimes power surges or AC power instability causes the router to go down. If your router is down when you turn on your PC, the PC will not find the router's signal and will then attempt to connect to a neighboring wireless connection. So, you may try turning your PC back off and then power-cycling the router (and/or) router/modem. Then, turn back on the power to your PC and if it connects to your wireless then it's not your PC settings but the router causing the issue. There's still more - your security software may be causing the PC not to connect - but that's a hold 'nother ball game. hope it helps. Keith

Cant get wireless router to work on laptop

First, try to connect your laptop hardwired to the router, if it works fine, its just the wireless configuration. Make sure you are using the correct wireless network key to connect to your wireless network. Go to the Control Panel > Network Connections > Right-click Wireless Network Connection > Properties > Wireless Networks Tab and delete all the names listed under Preferred Networks box. Click Ok. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection again > View Available Wireless Network > Choose your own network and click Connect. If it asks you to type the network key, type in your WEP or Wireless Network Key and press connect. That should do it.

Reformatted and now cant connect to my router

Hey mate,

few things,

can u see the wireless network name, when you search for wireless networks?

Does your wifi have any security settings [WEP/WPA] if so have u entered it correctly when u joined the network?

Have u installed the correct drivers for the wireless? some time incorrect drives will not allow the machine to connect to the wifi network. So double check that, and do a reinstall if necessary.

Report back if you can,

Hope it helps
