Question about Samsung DV331AGW Dryer

Open Question

Samsung front load dryer squeaks

Dryer makes a squeaky noise as its drying the clothes. One yr old, 3 weeks past warranty. The Belt broke, we ordered and replaced it, assuming that it was also the reason for the squeaky noise we had been hearing, but even after replacing the belt, the dryer now works fine, but is making the same very loud squeaky noise as the drum turns

SOURCE: 2 yr old samsung dryer does not dry clothes totally

Remove the vent completely and clean it out 100 percent. Elbows (corner bends) will hold more than you think causing the dryer to keep the heat off. The sensors for the newer style dryers detect plugged up vents and shut down the heating modes. If cleaned and still no heat the spark ignitor has gone bad

SOURCE: the drum stopped spinning on

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Yes it does have a belt. I'd say your assessment is almost bang on, based on your description and my experience. I've seen this many, many times...though the belt usually doesn't break it just comes off. Very common for Samsung dryers for whatever reason.

**Unplug the unit before proceeding...safety first**...

The good news is if it's accessible from the back you can simply remove the small panel around the exhaust tube as shown here,

if it's not you'll need to go from the front...do-able just a little more involved, let me know.

Once in the back the belt should look like this when routed properly, with the "V" grooves towards the drum and motor pulley.

i.e.

Hope that moves you forward...or even better, to the finish line, lol.

Let me know what you find. If this is something you think is not within' your scope of expertise please call a pro.

I will try to help in any manner I can of course as well. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Very squeaky guessing it may be a belt! also it does not shut off automatically when the clothes are dry. I thought that was a feature of this dryer. Bought it used 2 years ago.

My dryer makes terrible noise when tumbling. It is a loud squeaking noise. Is it a belt that needs to be replaced?

Loud squeaky noises are usually a dry bearing--in this case, probably the one(s) that hold up the front of the drum. Open the top to inspect, then remove the front panel to replace or repair. Hope this helps!

My dryer makes a squeaky sound during adrying

the front guides around the drum or the bearing at the back may be failing partially or bearings in the motor may have started to noise, there is also the chance that the belt idle pulleys have started to wear, more than lightly it is the belt idle pulleys that have dried up or the bushings have started to wear

Dryer makes a squeaking noise when running

Check the following:
  1. Idler pulley - It keeps tension on the main drive belt and when it is worn, it can be squeaky and noisy. Replace then.
  2. Glides - Attached to the front bulkhead of the clothes drum for support. When worn, it can be noisy and squeaky.. Replace then.
  3. Rollers or wheels - They support the clothes drum. When they are are worn, you should replace the whole set of rollers at the same time.
  4. Blower wheel - It pulls air over the heat source through the clothes drum past the thermostats, then pushes it out the exhaust duct. It may wear out over time. If it is noisy, it may be clogged with lint. Clean the blower and test to see if the dryer is still noisy. If it is, you need to replace it.

Dryer will not work1

Squeaking noise often indicates problem with drive belt. If belt broke, drum will no longer rotate. Belt is similar to fan belts used in autos. Ck Sear's website for parts diagram of yr dryer. If it shows a drive belt, I would start there.
