Question about RCA RTD317W Theater System

Open Question

My RCA RTD317W Theater System makes a horrendous noise that overrides the sound. It is an electronic pop and hum. I have checked all of the wire connections and nothing affects the noise, so I assume it is originating from within the unit. wHAT IS GOING ON AND HOW DO i FIX IT.

SOURCE: RCA LCD Flat Panel HDTV and RCA Home Theater System--No sound

Video comes from external device to TV - OUT on device and IN on TV.

Sound connects by the red/white cable set (or HDMI). Place set in Audio OUT ports on TV and Audio IN ports on DVD. Then select AUX IN on DVD.

SOURCE: i just bought an RTB1023

Why don't you try an HDMI input from, say, a cable box to see if THAT works any better. We have to isolate the source of the hum.

SOURCE: RCA Model RTD317W The standby mode

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts and overloads by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced hands-on tech.

The dvd player will not open

Usually there is a small hole in the front of the DVD tray which you can push a needle into to override the gear to gain access.if not power off the machine then holddown the eject button without releasing whilst switching on.this will usually override the lock.

What causes the sound to be distorted all the time,in every mode?

The main IC is damaged. If you can replace this IC then go for it, if not seek the professional assistance of a Technician in your area. This particular home theater system came from the manufacturer with that defect, a cheap Chinese made RCA. These Chinese made electronics are not made to function properly or last a reasonably long time...

No sound coming from center channel speaker

check surround sound settings, or another channel" this is your voice speaker, or hook one of the other speakers up to the center channel to see if that center speaker is good , you can also use a battery like a 9 volt to test the center speaker just touch it to the speaker wire momentary. and listen for a cackling noise if it makes a noise it is more than likely good

Sure if it supports RCA products. That would be up to the remote's designers and the codes would be in its documentation or maybe on their website.

Just bought an RCA RTD317W home theater system. Put in a dvd and the previews sound ok,but when the movie starts I can barely hear the speaking part

Barely or not at all?

The previews are almost always in a format-neutral audio track, like stereo. Once the feature starts you're usually listening to a multichannel soundtrack.

The dialog of a movie is usually carried on the center channel. Check to make sure you can hear and adjust test tones on all speakers per the manual first.
