My Memory Craft 7000 sometimes does the same thing, if it's very cold. Try warming it up by placing it near a heat source, a vent or a floor heater, for a few minutes. Then it works perfectly.
I've used these machines for over 20 years now, and they're my favorite!
If this doesn't solve your problem, you need to take it in for servicing.
They are work horses, but they do need their maintenance from time to time.
I hope this helps you.

The LCD Backlight is prone to going dark eventually and fails progressively, but you can buy a replacement and even instal it yourself.....
We can now supply the LCD Backlight Screen for the Janome Memory Craft MC 8000 and Memory Craft MC 5700.
Keep your old Janome, save money and reduce unnecessary landfill.
It also comes with comprehensive installation instructions from the Original Janome Service Manual which are sent in advance so you can look at the "How to do it" before you decide whether you wish to DIY or enlist the services of a trusted friend or take the LCD Screen and installation instructions to your friendly local technician and have them do it for you.
Here is the LCD Backlight Link

SOURCE: I have a memory craft
Most likely it is a step motor failure. It is possible that the A board or the F board has failed. There is a diagnosis chart and service program to run to isolate the problem, but it is complicated and requires explicit knowledge. You could try this: Turn the power off and manually move the needle bar from side to side a dozen times or so then turn the power on. Turn the power on and off several times if necessary, always waiting five seconds between on and off. If this does not work, take it to a Janome dealer (Janome is New Home).

There is an adjustment on the side of the black bobbin case.
Remove the needle plate, to gain access to the case. Lift it out, noting how it is positioned! On the side of it , there are two screws, one is the adjustment screw - its the one that sits out more. To increase tension, turn it clockwise 1/8th of a turn, reassemble and test sew. (make sure the top thread tension is back to where it should be). Repeat if required. DO NOT adjust too much at a time!
