Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Liftmaster 1/2 HP opens on its own

I have a 6 month old unit that seems to have a ghost. I have come back from some trips to the store to find my garage door open to the world. At first i just assumed it didnt close fully and reversed when I left so I have become diligent now about watching the door close completely. Today I came back after a 2 hour trip and it was open again and I definitely saw it close, as did my passenger. Any ideas how this can be happening. I thought these new remotes have zillions of codes that reprogram themselves so theres no possibibility of a neighbor with the same code?

My remote is the 373LM which is listed as a 315mhz. Is that good or bad? I only have 1 remote and it stays on my visor so no way it gets pushed accidentally. Plus if it was stuck i would see it opening when I pull away - I literally sit and watch the door shut every time as I have for the last few months so I would see if it opened right away.

I would say once every month or two I notice it. What are the red wires at the motor and should I permanently disconnect them or just temp?

1/3 hp liftmaster pro goes up 1 ft and then closes, need to press a couple of times to work.

After checking all the door parts; alignment, missing nuts and finally adjusting the spring we found a defect in the door opener (new replacement). There's a speed sensor that was hitting the cover and this was causing the door to go up or down only to a certain point. Sometimes it would stop and other times it would totally reverse. I made a small adjustment to the speed sensor and voila it's been working since. Now if I can get the wireless click pad to work I'll be back to the norm. Look online for a schematic if you don't know what the speed sensor looks like. These companies also sell just the parts if you want to repair your old opener. I hope this cures your problem.

Liftmaster Professional 1/2 HP spindle not turning

Remove the cover from the motor unit and check the drive gear. It is a white nylon gear just in front of the motor unit and will be obvious if it is bad. The part number is 41A2817 and is available from any door opener service company. The part will come with instructions.

Motor runs but door won't open. checked chain, seems to be ok

The problem is not the chain, it is the plastic gear in the unit of the liftmaster Garage Door 1/2 Hp.The plastic gear is not engaging, although it sounds like it is working.

You will have to replace it with a new one, then the liftmaster Garage Door 1/2 Hp will be able to open up once again.

Once you open and remove the old gear, Be sure to thread the screws in all the parts before you install them. Pre-threading them once would really help. Secondly, label the wires on the back of the opener before lowering it to the ladder, so you can put them back in their proper place.

Hope this was helpful.

You may have a bad wall control. Try disconnecting it from the opener and try. Otherwise it is time for a new model.

No response to remote on Liftmaster 1/3 HP model # 1245R

It has probablly lost sync.

Follow the procedure to reload the codes. One usually has to hit a reset button on the head and then follow a sequence to sync your remote to the head.

Door openly opens 5-6 in, then stops.

If the door isn't unusually heavy when you open it manually then maybe an adjustment will help. On the back of the motor unit you will find the 'up force' control. Increase it 1/4 turn and try.

GDO repair

If unit is pre 1993 (Safety beam era), Sears will not sell you any parts. Google Liftmaster gear kit. Buy for $25-30. Not hard if you are handy. Buy the complete kit with bearings.

Sears Craftsman Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model and a LiftMaster Chamberlain Professional Garage Door

I had the same frustrating dilemma with my Craftsman LiftMaster garage door and Keypad, Model 139.53754-01 (dated 10/06; and has the # 315 MHz).

To resolve “the dilemma”, grab your keypad, climb up on a ladder to access the garage door opener’s motor unit. On the right side of the motor unit, remove the white plastic casing by pressing buttons on each side and pulling down. This will expose the programming area, and for our purposes, the “Learn” button.

1. On the motor unit, press and release the “Learn” button. The Learn indicator light will glow steadily for 30 seconds.

2. Within 30 seconds, enter a four digit personal identification number (PIN) of your choice on the keypad. Then press and hold the ENTER button.

3. Release the ENTER button when the motor unit lights blink. The code has been “learned”/stored/activated.

Good Luck, and I Hope this Helps!
For possible future reference:

How to change an existing, known PIN
(Changing an existing PIN can be done with the wireless remote keypad, and does not require access of the motor unit.)

From the keypad:

1. Enter the four digits of the present PIN, then press and hold the # button. The opener light will blink twice. Release the # button.

2. Enter your new 4-digit PIN and press Enter. The motor unit lights will blink once when the PIN has been “learned”/stored/activated. Test by entering the new PIN, and pressing Enter.
