5 mostly green verticle lines on all digitle channels. HD ok.

My Samsung HL-R4667W DLP TV has 5 verticle, mostly green lines on all digitle channels, but all HD channels pictures are fine. I know by testing, the cable to TV is fine. Would like to fix myself.

    Have the same problem

Samsung 50" HL-R4667W only 3 years old, experiencing identical problem. Have attempted to find answers on-line, no luck. Can not tell from the various posts if it is a lamp or digital (DM) board. Weird, tv has normal picture on component 2 on HD chanels only, every other source is distorted with vertical lines and green screen.

Very similar issue. Only on Standard Def video. HD is fine.

Exact same problem here: composite + s-video inputs all give distorted ("bad reception"-looking) with flashing gray and 5 green + pink vertical bars. Would love to repair myself since the rest of the inputs work perfecty.

I just called customer support and my issue is now fixed, to my extreme surprise.

It sounds silly (and a tad embarrassing), but here's what I did:

1) Unplug the TV
2) Wait 30s
3) Plug the TV in
4) Test

Apparently even if the TV is "off" for a few days it never fully shuts down unless the power is unplugged. Not sure if this will help anyone else, but I had the exact same problem others are describing. Good luck!

After my initial fix posted in this thread (unplug, hard reboot TV) the Samsung DLP was working for about 2 months. A couple of days ago I turned on the TV and was greeted by the same problem. The hard reboot worked again until yesterday when the problem progressed.

When the TV is booted up with any analog inputs plugged in, I see:

    * Green bar, flashing picture problem.
    * Periodically the TV "crashes" to a black screen for a minute or so, then comes back to the green bar state. This cycle repeats endlessly.
    * Attempting to switch to another input does nothing.

When the TV is booted up with no analog inputs plugged in, the television functions as expected. The picture from digital inputs is fine and the TV's internal menus look fine as well.

I'm currently looking into the following options:

    * Some device which will deinterlace 480i -> 480p which my receiver can then output over HDMI or component
    * New receiver which will upconvert 480i and output over HDMI or component
    * New HD Tivo (my only analog device)
    * New TV
    * TV repair -- Got one quote so far and to replace the DM board plus one other board (forget the exact name) at $550 parts + unknown labor. Given that the bulb has nearly 4 years on it ($250 additional when that dies) this is not a preferred option.

I guess this isn't exactly a fix, but I'm sure any of these options will work and thought people might appreciate the info.

I am having the same problem. It was diagnosed as a failed optical block (optical engine/light engine). It isn't the lamp seeing as there is a variance with the different signals. If yours happens to sound like a squeeky fan it could be a problem with the color wheel... though it sounds identical to mine so I highly doubt it.
Sony and Mitsubishi have had the same problems with the technology and will sometimes take care of repairs out of warranty. Its essentially a failure with the technology--they don't even make them like this anymore.  Unfortunately the repair is around the price of a new TV. Given the failures try talking to Samsung (1-800- SAMSUNG). I purchased the TV from a warehouse store so I am in the process of trying to get it exchanged.

Tweetie57 - If you're getting good picture on HD, then it's very likely not the lamp. I have the same problem, only non-HD pictures are affected though. The menus and PIP and HD signals look fine. I'm pretty sure that's a digital board problem.

Check if it has a scrambled image on all sources ie - DVD- VCR - cable/satellite box. Since the PIP is normal it sounds like the signal source is bad.

Replaced the color wheel on a Samsung DLP

Did you replace the color wheel yourself ? Sometimes you have to remove a small black jumper on the DM module on the light engine and that will remove the greenish but sometimes adjustments also need to be made in the service menu.

Samsung dlp projection tv-when turned on green horizontal lines show up acroos the screen

that is what was happening with mine.  Tech came out and we are not waiting for a new DMB board.  Glad it's under the extended warranty we bought in 2005 (which runs out next month) or it would have cost $500.00 parts and labor.

needs a DM Board, prity easy to change yourself, if you order one, make sure you give them the version number off the Right side of the TV, will be somthing like SP01, To change - when you take the back off the tv, it will be on the left hand side, have to unplug 3 or 4 connectors, then take the plastic covering off, and it will slide out.
