Light was just replaced after being dim. All was fine for about an hour. The screen is flickering in purples & greens and there is a "tick tick" sound coming from inside the set.

SOURCE: light purple spots on my screen

Unfortunately, this sounds like a problem with your TV's lamp. They are not cheap to fix. Search Ebay for a new lamp and get someone to install it for you. These Mitsubishis have a design flaw that make the lamps burn out quickly.
One thing that will PREVENT this problem is making sure that the TV's vents are clean.

Please check if the air flow is blocked." According to the Mitsubishi website, this issue is caused by a loose connection as a result of a faulty thermal sensor. Another common situation consumers have encountered is failure of the TV to turn on along with unceasing flashing of the green power light. The solution for this problem, caused by the DM board, will vary by repairman. Consumers have also encountered issues with moving vertical or horizontal lines appearing on the screen which can either be due to problems with the capacitor, light engine, or formatter board. Make sure all bad caps are changed.

My 73'' mitsubishi model #wd-73738. Is flickering.

Hi!
That's a clear indication that you have a bad power supply in your TV.
If you know how to DiY...I suggest you open your TV. Locate the power supply section, it is where the end of the power plug is connected. Replace all blown or bulge or leaked capacitors with same value. That will fix your TV problem.
The hardest part is to disassembling your TV cover, cause you will need to pry off the snap in lock at the edge of your TV.

Power supply board should look like this. Examine the capacitors in the board

After replacing blown capacitors...it should work again.

Things you will need.
1. A plastic flat end screw or any object with flat ends....to fry off the cover
2. Soldering iron.
3. Soldering lead
4. Soldering pump.
5. Flat and Philip Screw
6. Replacement capacitors (of same value with the blown one) that you can buy to any electronics store.

Or try replace light engine..if the above solution won't work..

I have a Mitsubishi WD-65731, After watching for an hour or two, the screen is taken over by a pink or purple color. We just got it back after replacing the optical engine.

You need to have the servicer check and re-seat all the connections to the light engine. It is also possible that the new engine may be at fault.
