Question about FireLite (USBFLB80) Hard Drive
Is it possible to remove the hard drive disks from one firelite hard drive and put them into another drive; i.e. replacing a 60GB drives disks with a 120GB drives disks? If so, do the disks need to maintain the same relative position to each other? I've moved the disks to another drive unit and back with no resolution. In its original position the read write arm just cycles back anf forth for a while then it parks
The only think that can be replaced is the whole had drive unit inside the plastic enclosure.
If you disassemble an hard drive unit on normal environment you have over 90% of chances to damage the disks, as hard drives are normally built in a special e pressurized environment (clean room).
Therefore , even if it is possible (providing that also control board is replaced) the 60Gb 'internal disks' with 120MB, it is not worth attempting the operation, as chance this is unsuccessful are too big, and such rebuilt hard drive won't be a reliable data support.
If instead you want just to replace the external USB enclosure, in that case the operation can be done with no problem, just find a 120 GB disk and replace the old 60GB.
