What you have done is either tried shutting the player off when the hold button was on (orange showing) or something has happened with the hold button on. When this happens I have had luck with either putting it back so the orange shows and then hold the off button for 30 seconds or more until the system powers down. Then turn it back on and the system should be ok. I have also had to remove the back cover with a small jewelers screwdriver (4 screws and very simple) and remove the battery. You can get a set of the screwdrivers from any hardware store for a few bucks. reinstall the battery and it should work.

Your pc will; if it's reasonably new, have USB 2.0 ports and that is probably what you need to connect the player to for transfering files, it's not a mode thats within the player that you can change, it may work with usb 1.1 if it does it will just transfer at a slower speed that's all, if it's a laptop thats about 4 years old it should have USB 2.0 ports, but some dont show, that goes for both pc and laptop, so try connecting in a different port to see if it connects. The Sansa updater will probably only be used when there are updates available and will be automatically advised when you are on line.

Set sansa to recovery mode, Start the updater plug the sansa into the computer, unplug when told sansa, should restart (Lock sansa press and hold rec and menu until recovery begins)
Reset All
NOTE: THIS IS AN ADVANCED OPERATION AND RESTORES ALL SETTINGS
TO THE FACTORY DEFAULTS. NORMAL USERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED
TO PERFORM THIS OPERATION!
If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds.
This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation
will be gone.....
Go to my computer click on folder scroll to sansa and open the media folder and open each sub folder and delete manually then delete the folders Right click on your sansa then format a couple of times hope this works

SANSA E260 ENTER USB 2.0 MSD MODE

if you go into the setting section of the menu you can select the USB mode back again, if this fails to solve the problem, take the back of the player off via 4 very small phillips screws and remove the battery for at least 30 seconds then put it back in and it should be good.
