SOURCE: Will not feed paper. HP Photosmart 2575

This is a very common problem. Apparently HP changed the roller because of this fault.
I've tried cleaning, I've tried making the roller rough. I tried to get HP to send me a new roller but they didn't even reply.
HP are a rubbish company who don't care at all about customers (and their printer software (bloatware) is even more rubbish).
BUT - the solution I found:
The spring that holds the roller down onto the paper is too weak. I bent the end of a straightened out paper clip into a small hook then made another hook-like bend a bit further up (but kept the rest of the clip to use like a handle). the length between the two hook parts is just under 1/2 inch. Don't cut it yet - buy you will need to when it's in place.
ad74983.jpg Hold the handle end (the bit at the bottom of this sketch) so you can fiddle about in the small space and don't loose the spring altogether.
Find the spring that fixes onto the roller gadget, it hooks onto the printer body. Hook the spring off the hole in the printer body, and then catch the second (double) hook of the paperclip onto the small printed circuit board just by the roller (most of the board is empty - so hook it to the left end of the board).
Then, when it's all in place cut the rest of the paperclip off.
You can see the double hook part once I'd cut off the "handle" piece in the photo:

0e1481b.jpg and here you can see where the spring used to go, and where it fixes with the clip thingy I made.

Of course this is what I did (when I was about to throw the printer away so it was a last chance survival idea), if you loose the spring, stick it onto something that goes sparky-sparky or otherwise kill the machine or yourself I can't take responsibility!

SOURCE: Photo Paper Feed

the issue that you have might need to change some settings from the printing properties. WHen you hit on PRINT, a box will open, right? look on the top right of that box, you will see "PROPERTIES" or "Preferences" just click on it, then another box will open. Click on Printing Shortcuts tab, try to review the settings. And if you want to print using the main tray, it should set it to Automatic select or Main tray. And make sure that it sets to General Printing. But if youre going to print a photo, you will have options there to choose what type of paper when you click on that, the settings on the paper size, paper source, etc. will change also. For paper source, make sure that it sets to Photo Tray.

If you will be able to open printing preferences, all options are there, you just need to read and choose which settings you want to use.

Thank you so much.

SOURCE: Tray2 Paper emty message after swapping out tray2 pickup roller

Your problem is more than likely that the sensor lever is not properly positioned. You may also have dislodged the shaft from the drive gears (gears on right out side of carriage). Both are easy to do.

Here's a couple pictures of the exact positioning of the paper sensor positioning. It should freely flip up and fall back down with gravity. Remove the tray and check the flag that hangs down.

Just in case you have dislodged the shaft from the geartrain, here's a free copy of the HP Service manual for the printer that will walk you through disassembling the right side for re-mounting the shaft and holder clip for the shaft.

Hope that helps you. :)

If this resolves the issue, hit me with a Fixya! If not ask me further and I'll try and help you some more.

Jennifer, Got off on the wrong start with my prior question. It's an 8550 not an 8500 printer. Paper will not pick-up from the bottom tray. Can be force fed, but margins are not right. Feed rollers dr

It depends on the age of the printer and the environment in which has been used. Hot environments hasten the ageing and integrity of the frictional surfaces on all "rubber" or synthetic rubber, Rollers and pressure rollers. If they cannot be cleaned with Methylated spirit and resurfaced with a light abrasive wet or dry paper, to restore their frictional capability, then they are defunct and would need to be replaced. With many of today's printers it is cheaper to replace when they are say, a max of five years old and makes much more sense to do so.

Comes a time when even our own "rubber" wears out completely , only problem is we have to pass on, unlike the appliance which may well be able to be given a new lease of life with the right treatment.

How to replace pickup rollers

This should help. Good luck !

Cassette (Tray 2) paper pickup and feed rollers

To remove the paper pickup and feed rollers

1 Remove the cassette.

2 Locate the two rollers on the bottom of the paper pickup unit (above the cassette). The pickup

roller is the smaller roller, and the feed roller is the larger roller.

3 Pinch the tab on the end of the cassette pickup roller (callout 1), and pull the roller out.

4 Pinch the tab on the end of the cassette feed roller (callout 2), and pull the roller out.

Note Always replace the cassette pickup roller and the cassette feed rollers at the same time. Also replace
the separation roller (located in the paper cassette) when replacing these rollers

Blank pages when printing

Remove the paper tray and look up into the paper pickup area. The roller there is the paper pickup roller. Under the paper pickup roller is a paper double-feed prevention pad. Take a "Q-Tip" dipped in alcohol and clean both the paper pickup roller and the double-feed prevention pad. That should prevent the paper double-feeds that you are experiencing.

Plain paper feeds no problem but photo glossy paper wont feed! (epson 830)

This looks to be a problem with the paper pickup roller. Hence use a little thin Photo paper or replace the Pickup roller and also the Paper feed toller (Long black roller )

HP P3005DN Tray 2 pickup roller does not turn. Hear clicking sound but roller doesn't turn to pickup and feed paper.

This is a problem with the Pickup roller.

Try to inspect the paper pickup roller, on the right side of the roller you can find a small notch which gets coupled with the shaft it will be broken. You have to replace the roller.

Our HP B8550 is squeaking when it prints. How can we fix this? It has just started doing this.

Try reinstalling the cartridge or installing another. This cartridge's yield is 2500 pages. When is very used, it could make rare sounds. Always use genuine HP cartridge.

Check the pick-up roller,If the pick-up roller has a very smooth surface, replace it.

First off put a sheet of paper on the manual feeder (tray 1) and do a self test. Does the printer still make the noise. If it does, then it is not the roller in tray 2. Only other way is to put your ear to the printer case and see if you can isolate where the noise is coming from.

There is a fuser assembly in the rear which generates heat so over time bushings can go bad and it will make noise. You really need to isolate it more. If you open and close the toner door the motor will turn for a couple of seconds. Do you hear the noises then?

As the paper starts to feed through, it jams on the left side, as if the left side roller is feeding the paper in faster than the right side

Take a soft cloth (not paper towel) moistened with alcohol and clean off the rollers that pickup the paper. Make sure you clean the entire roller. Chances are that there is paper dust on one or more rollers and they're slipping, causing the jam.

My printer keeps jamming paper and wont print. The light that says check paper is flashing. It jams every time.

1. shuffle the paper before feeding in paper tray
2. clean the paper pickup rubber rollers visible inside the printer with mild detergent and water and wipe off with clean cloth

Paper feed is feeding too many pages at once

First make sure you are using the right weight paper. On the package it will tell you what weight it 20lb, if the paper is the acceptable weight for your particular printer then it is probably the pickup rollers. Depending on the price of your printer (if it is an inexpensive one) you may want to consider just replacing it, due to the difficulty of replacing rollers on many printers if they are even replaceable.

Hewlett packerd 3310 won't paper feed. You can feed one paper at a time and use the end of a number a small pish stick to help feed it thru the paper tray!

Most likely either the pickup roller or the feed roller is worn, damaged, or excessively dirty.

You need to purchase a "paper feed cleaning kit" either from your regular HP store or from an HP online retailer. Then go here to get the step-by-step procedure. Instructions vary according to your operating system.

If this does not correct your feed problem, you need an HP certified technician to disassemble the printer and physically examine the parts. They may require replacement.
