Goodman Air Conditioner not heating well...

The unit is a 2.5 ton variable speed unit. The heat strips come on to help heat but as soon as the heat reaches correct temp they "kick off" and the unit keeps running off course but....the unit is not putting out very much heat. Normal heating should put out like 98 degrees at the vents and this is putting out like only 72. Heat strips and unit come off and on a lot. Why is the unit not putting out very much heat without the heat strips?

Full of Freon. No leaks, been pressure checked. Any help appreciated?

The heat strips are what is called Auxilary or supplemental heat. If your t-stat is set 2 degrees or more then what the actual temp. in the house is or if the system runs 10 min. or more nonstop they turn on to help the Heat pump catch up.Then shut off within 1-2 degrees of set temp. Heat pumps have a balance point of about 30 degrees outside air temp. If it is colder then that it will run almost nonstop and the colder it gets the lower the air temp. it puts out. If you are below say 15-20 degrees outside it would be better to switch your t-stat to emergency heat. That shuts of the outdoor unit and runs only the heat strips. It's more expensive to run it that way but you will be warmer. I hope that works for you. Let me know.

Heat pumps in cold climates suffer a number of limitations stemming from the fact that they are designed for air-conditioning applications. As climates become cooler and heating becomes more of the primary HVAC function, one may find that conventional heat pumps lose capacity and do not satisfy the load of the conditioned space. In colder temperatures, a conventional system’s need to defrost can further detract from heating performance. The use of resistance heat or fossil fuels to supplement or replace the vapor cycle. The additional use of supplemental heat to temper cold air blowing into the space during defrosts. As it gets colder outside, the delivery air temperatures inside begin to fall when no supplemental heat is being used. Supply air temperatures that are warmer than the return temperatures add heat to a space, but discomfort occurs when these supply temperatures drop below skin temperature. The air movement can feel cool or even cold. While the heat pump may be operating exactly as intended, the consumer will desire a more comfortable environment.

Noise on high speed

Is it the original size motor? It sounds like it could be to many CFM for the size of the duct causing back pressure when the blower goes into high.

Buy a heat kit from a Goodman dealer. Check that your existing wire will carry the amp load.

Goodman package unit heat strips will not turn on

Put meter probes at in put terminal of the element if you read 220volts that mean your relay is good. if you got it there use amp meter on one leg of that element. You should read some amp draw there but if there is no amp draw it mean the element broke.

How to change a evep coil from a up flowunit to a down flow

What I have seen in the past and I have a few pictures, is you literally turn the entire Air handler upside down and insert the evaporator coil in so it would then be considered downflow, most ac companies have addition info in case you need any additional breacket etc.
Hope this helps.

OD model#, CKL36- 1F and the indoor model#, AR36-1. The indoor does not have the electric heat strip in it but has the place for it. I want to convert it to a heat pump. Is it a 3 ton system? How many KW...

You can use the existing air handler for a heat pump condenser unit up to 3 tons. The line set, evap coil are fine for a heat pump.
The electric heat strip issue can be another problem, you can put several different size strips in depending on what may be needed where you live, the power requirements will differ with each heat strip, for example a 5KW (5000 watt) heat strip requires a 2 pole 30 amp circuit for heat strip and air handler combination.

I have a 5 ton goodmsn heat pump it only blows cold air the heat doesnt come on have a new heat strip in it but still blows cod air

Heat pumps require a reversing valve for heat operation on the outdoor section, a control signal to a "O" terminal or orange wire is required for heating and cooling depending on the thermostat and out door unit requirements. The thermostat also has to be heat pump type for the system to operate heat for electric system with heat strip, two stage electric heating.

Just had a new 3.5 Ton Goodman GSZ13-13 SEER, heatpump installed. Its working OK in Cooling, however whe switched over to heating mode the indor unit makes a loud grumbling sound. The installer stated that...

I install them every day and I have not had one make a loud grumbling sound. Sounds like you might have a low voltage (Thermostat) wiring problem. The only thing different inside the indoors unit from heat and cool is the fan speed, electric heat when on. The fan might be loose or out of balance and it only shows up at low speeds. Either way, the noise is not normal.

Fan not running on Heat Pum

That does not sound normal at all, I have a Goodman Heatpump and the Fan on the Evaporator (outside unit) should run as soon as it starts up!
The only delay you should be seeing is when the unit starts, the fan in the AHU starts 5 seconds after and runs for about 1.5 minutes after shutdown.
