My screen is black, if I hook it up to another monitor it's fine.
I have the same problem and it seems to be a bad backlight lamp. Sometimes the Fn and F6 key gets it back, but sometimes not for long and sometimes it flickers. However, I can hook up a monitor and switch to it just fine. I want to find a backlight lamp and have it replaced with a better quality lamp.

If everyting else appears to be working, hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture is okay the inverter board is more than likely bad located under the laptop screen, the other less likely is the backlight behind the display screen, but if both show the same symptoms it is the video graphics chip built into the motherboard.
Hook a spare monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture okay! the inverter board just below the laptop screen is defective, "more than likely" or the backlight behind the display is faulty, but if both show the same symptom it is the video graphics card normally built into the motherboard.
If everything appears to be working, hook a external monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture is okay! the inverter board located under the screen has failed, or the backlight behind the display is defective. Now if both screens show the same problem it is the video graphics card that is bad normally built into the motherboard.
Hook a spare monitor to the video output, usually on the back, if picture okay! the LCD screen on the laptop has a bad inverter board or the backlight behind the screen has failed. But if both show the same symptom the Video Graphics Card is bad usually built into the motherboard.
To check whether the LCD screen itself if the issue or the backlight or inverter. You have to carefully look in the screen and see if you see anything on it. It would be extremely dim but try white background and black screen. If you see something in it, then most probably it's either the backlight or the inverter. For that you need to buy those from the market and install it, OR IF YOU ARE NOT A TECH GENIUS I WOULD RECOMMEND YOU TAKE IT TO A DEALER IF ITS IN WARRANTY TAKE IT TO ACER THEY SHOULD FIX IT FOR FREE.(I dont know the rules of Acer, but most companies fix that for free)
the reason for not seeing any picture on the external is becouse it is disabled in windows. I have 3 lcd screens here, only one gives picture untill I go and extend my desktop into the other monitors. from desktop -> right click anywhere -> properties -> settings ->
Id say the backlight is bad is your acer still covered by warranty?
