I assume you can see a faint image on the panel but it's just not lit at all.

you cannot replace the lamp, as it is part of the lcd itself. If the laptop is in warranty, contact acer. if not, try this:

remove the lcd bezel (front plastic). peel off the sticky dots and undo the screws to remove the bezel. The inverter board will be at the bottom of the lcd panel - basically right behind the acer logo on the bezel. disconnect and reconnect the connectors on each side of the inverter board - it might just be a bad/loose connection. If this doesn't fix it, it's probably worth gambling on a new inverter board. Call acer, it's a very inexpensive part ($20 probably)

Hope this helps!

It might be necessary to send it in to Acer for their technicians to look at it as they have parts there. The damage of the display panel many have damaged other parts as well I would suspect the ribbon cable that feeds the display from the main body section. Is power getting to the inverter? Look at the items you have not compared with the other unit such as a ribbon cable- what else is there?

So you PHYSICALLY checked the connection of the Video Cable, TO the motherboard, TO the screen Inverter, and TO the back of the LCD screen?

Visual inspection will NOT do. If either motherboard connector, or LCD screen connector is loose, the width of this letter -> I < you won't see it, and it will affect the video signal.

The Video Cable connects to the motherboard under the Middle Cover, above the F4 and F5 key on the Keyboard. (Left edge of F4 key over to middle of F5 key)

[Middle Cover is Acer speak for Switch Cover. The cover strip above the Keyboard, and below the LCD screen ]

Click on the view to enlarge. Top left side connects to the LCD screen. Rectangular Black connector with thick round cable, at the bottom, connects to the motherboard. Small cable coming off at the bottom, connects to the screen Inverter ]

From the motherboard connector the Video Cable routes up under the left Hinge, and into the Display Assembly. It then connects to the screen Inverter, and LCD screen.

From normal opening, and closing of the laptop, repeatedly, the Video Cable may become pinched.
This can lead to loose connections.

It can also lead to damage of the Video Cable.
If the sheath of the cable shows apparent signs of damage, the tiny wires inside may be damaged also.
Stretched/Broken

This means to ENSURE that the Video Cable is NOT the problem, a continuity test needs to be performed on all of the Video Cable's wires. (OHMS)
If an economical multimeter ($5 to $12) is not available, suggestion is to take it down to the nearest 'Mom and Pop' computer store, and have them check it. Labor charge should only be a few bucks.

Video Cable checks out it's on to the screen Inverter, for the diagnoses.

[NOTE*
This diagnoses is for an Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook PC. Uses a single (1) CCFL for a Backlight, and has a screen Inverter. Laptops that use LED's for a Backlight generally do not use a screen Inverter]

Did you test the screen Inverter, or replace it?

Takes a sensitive multimeter. Read fairly expensive.

An LCD screen cannot produce light by itself,

http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/NA_Optical/Systems/BehindTheScenes/Optics101/

Click on the monitor. Suggest start out with your audio turned down ]

It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight can be a CCFL, (Or two of them), or a series of LED's.
(Light Emitting Diode)
The Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook PC uses a single (1) CCFL.

A CCFL is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Similar to Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.

[Average thickness is 2mm. That is a little larger than 1/16th of an Inch.
Average length is almost as long, as the LCD screen is in height,

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/12/09/replace-laptop-backlight-ccfl-lamp/ ]

A screen Inverter is used to convert the power (Electricity) from the laptop, for the LCD screen, and Backlight.

90 PERCENT OF THE TIME the fault is a bad screen Inverter.

Primer over.

If the screen Inverter is good, the LCD screen is bad.
Replace.

[The LCD screen, and the screen Inverter are a MATCHED unit.
When purchasing make sure you get the correct screen Inverter, or LCD screen ]

Backlight issue for an Acer Aspire 8730 It will turn on for anywhere from 1 to 6 seconds by use of the F6 function. It turns on and off turning the boot up process, but ultimately it stays off. I can see...

Hi,
Most of the times it is the back light issue (failing Inverter or the CCFL-Lamp). Acer Aspire 8730 has 2 lamps and it is highly unlikely that both of them fail together. Hence, I suspect the failing Inverter. Secondly, I have come across a few issues related to back light failing/ flickering etc, which were due to loose connections and LCD cable only. There are, I think, 3-4 connector (from motherboard to inverter- Inverter to lamp, Cable from motherboard to LCD for data) and 1 cable from the motherboard to the LCD. If there is any loosing or the cable is damaged, the back light flickers when you open or close the lid, however, when the Inverter or the Lamp fails the display is completely dark all the time. Furthermore, the Inverter supplies high voltage to the lamps, therefore, proper precautions should be taken while working inside LCD. If you are familiar with working/ troubleshooting such electronics, you may check for the loosing / faulty cable etc. and try to fix them yourself. Otherwise, if it is the faulty lamp or Inverter, it is highly recommended that you seek assistance from authorized professional for repair.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

My Acer Aspire One screen is faded. How do i correct this error?

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp.

Your screen inverter is bad, or your backlight lamp. (The Backlight Lamp is a CCL. Cold Cathode Lamp. Resembles a very small, thin fluorescent bulb)

How to replace an inverter in an Acer Aspire 4315? I can't find you the exact manual at the moment. HOWEVER, I can give you a link to manuals that are close to the Acer Aspire 4000 Series laptops.

I have found through the years, that many laptop makes and models, are very similar, when it comes to disassembly, of the entire laptop, or just the LCD screen. These manuals are for various models of Acer Aspire laptops,

Look online for Screen Inverter and also Backlight Lamp, for your Acre Aspire. There are many places that sell them. (Average price for the lamp, ranges from $8.99 to $14.99, or so)

ACER ASPIRE 5610z BLACK SCREEN

You could have a defective screen - follow this to determine the fault.

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

You could have an inverter problem, it supplies high voltage to the CCFL backlight lamp or you have a faulty CCFL lamp.

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a very dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

The LCD screen on HP ze1250 dim, external monitor works fine. How to replace the backlights and where do I get the parts?

The problem could be a faulty inverter or the backlight fluro light lamp. The inverter is easier to replace than the fluro lamp.
Google the WEB for replacement parts and instructions on replacing the lamp. There are quite a few helpful sites for parts and repair instructions.
