Question about Washing Machines
Our Maytag Washer is making a horrible loud banging sound during the spin cycle. The drum sounds like it's going to come off. We opened the front panel to take a look and there isn't much to see. It's pretty tight in there.
Any thoughts as to what the problem could be? The owners manual was useless. One reply suggested changing some pads on the bottom of the drum that get dry. Our machine is about 11 years old. Thanks for any help.
Damper pads, P/N 203956, $23 at searspartsdirect.com might do the job. Can't put them in yourself though, unless you are the Maytag man. Look for felt pads at the bottom of the cabinet or black dust around the damper at the bottom.
Other, more expensive problems might be a warped drum or a bad transmission. Are the springs o.k.?
