Maytag LAT9806AAE- Top Load Waher- Loud Banging During Spin Cy
Our Maytag Washer is making a horrible loud banging sound during the spin cycle. The drum sounds like it's going to come off. We opened the front panel to take a look and there isn't much to see. It's pretty tight in there. Any thoughts as to what the problem could be? The owners manual was useless. One reply suggested changing some pads on the bottom of the drum that get dry. Our machine is about 11 years old. Thanks for any help.

Damper pads, P/N 203956, $23 at searspartsdirect.com might do the job. Can't put them in yourself though, unless you are the Maytag man. Look for felt pads at the bottom of the cabinet or black dust around the damper at the bottom.
Other, more expensive problems might be a warped drum or a bad transmission. Are the springs o.k.?

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. Since the suspension is ok and it is level, check your drive motor and spin bearing. Usually, these are the trouble parts when loud noises are associated with the spinning cycle. Your drive motor controls the spinning. Since the noise is during spinning, that is probably where your problem lies.
Check and see if the inner drum is loose and floppy.if it is, it's likely the bearings have collapsed, and require replacement...If the drum feels stiff and tight, it could be that something is jammed between the inner and outer drums. Both situations could be costly...Get quotes....Good luck...Nomess
Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.
YOU MEAN LOUD DURING SPIN CYCLE? IF THAT SO, WHAT KIND OF NOISE? BANGING NOISE MEANS YOU HAVE UNBALANCED LOAD OR ONE OF THE SUSPENSION IS BAD OR FELL OFF. GRINDING NOISE MEANS YOU HAVE A BAD TUB BEARING, TO REPLACE THAT, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR TUB ASSEMBLY, VERY COSTLY. MEANS YOU PROBABLY BE BUYING A NEW WASHER.
Unless your front loader is set firmly on concrete
and leveled to perfection, the force of a heavy wash load spinning in
excess of 1000rpm will create a bit of vibration and noise.A firm footing is your best defense against to much movement. Also due to the earlier movements during the spin cycle, the
shocks that are used to dampen the spin cycle might have been broken or
damaged. If the problem persists inspite of proper levelling, please do check for the shocks or might have them replaced them for good.
make sure all shipping pins are out the tub should move all around from side to side if it level still bangs its eather the balance ring top basket are there 3 slides on a plate above the motor just put some silacone oil on tham move around
