Panasonic uj-870 wont read/boot discs, need it to boot my recovery software because hd is wiped. Very frustrating

The optical reader has more than likely went bad and so you will need to replace the drive. That of course is the easiest solution, but there are some work arounds

How do i fix a XPS 420 hard drive that stopped working?

You shoudl first go into your BIOS settings and ensure that the HD is registered there, compltely.

Then with the power off, open the CPU Case and look for the HD. Ensure that the jumpers are set to MAster, and that all cables are plugged in proberly and firmly. and I mean at both ends of the HD, the HD itself, and the cable to the motherboard/disk controller.

Then you should be sure that your HD didn't somehow get clobbered, such thta the disk is wiped clean, or that the critical Windows boot files are missing. If so, if you had created a boot disk for such an occurrance, then restart and hit F5 or F8 immediately after the power comes on, until you get a menu for boot. Find the option to allowyou to use boot repair and system repair on your computer.

If nothing works, then it may be necessary to start fresh and recreate your sytem from scratch.

I wish I could bring better news.

Improper boot device

Sounds like you wiped out the boot partition. You either wiped it out or you have the system looking at the wrong partition to boot from. Go back and check your work.

I need to wipe a hard drive clean of os and data and reinstall new info

Have a Operating System disk ready to insert to DVD or CD device. Go to boot menu or boot first menu making sure that your booting from the DVD or CD device as the first boot. Generally this is the Default setting in most machines. Go to BIOS if you cannot access the boot order menu at start up. Tick on boot and select that option second device will be the HD or whatever is noted for your hard drive.
Place the disk into the drive boot and follow the onscreen instructions. John

Computer wants a boot disk. It was donated to our church

It sounds like the person who donated the PC wiped the HD clean, so that none of their previous data can be taken from the old HD.

And when they re-installed an operating system, they did not complete the installation. This means you must contact that person, find out which OS they installed on the HD, and get the boot diskette from that person.

The alternative is to have them do a full install of an OS, or you do it yourself. But you must use an OS for which you have a license.

Otherwise, you will have error messages pop up every step of the way, and you won't be able to use the PC without error messages every step of the way.

I have a Acer laptop and it has the blue screen death how can i repair it.

it depends on what the screen says. If you don't mind losing what you have in the computer, boot up with an OS disk, wipe the HD clean and install the OS from scratch.
If you want to try to save what you have in your computer, boot up from the OS disk and choose "repair" from the disk menu

Recently I have cleaned up my Acer desktop with"Diskrub" Since then I am unable to have access to BIOS. Changing hard drives with known working software does not help. Computer does not boot up at all. Can...

guess u have wiped up ur boot sector in the HD...
u can get into BIOS when the computer pressing either F1, F2, Del, Home, Ins, etc keys...
if u cant do that, ur BIOS is corrupted...
i guess Diskrub would not have wiped ur BIOS as BIOS is a software embedded in a chipset in the Motherboard and not in Hard disk.
if u have FLASHED ur BIOS with an update then i cant say anything...

If you know how ?reset the memory and restart the computer
at the boot press F8 if the menu appears try last known good confiuration that worked if this does not work you need to format and reinstall the os the blue screen is and indication of driver failuer or hardware conflick and if the system.last good config will only work 1 time after that it will wipe out the os and you will have to restore from the restore disk, and the best way to do that is to reformat the drive and do a clean install ,but if you have windows there is a restore mode your disk will say press F2 to restore now
