Brand New Samsung Omnia Out of Memory

I have a new Samsung Omnia and have saved no files to memory, however, when I go to Settings - System Memory, my storage memory is full, and I keep getting a popup window saying my storage memory is full! How do I fix this?

the phone has 8gbs of memory but the storage linked to all of omnia's files has partioned only a few mbs.  can't seem to change this.

  • Anonymous Jan 21, 2009

Same problem. Unlike older windows mobile releases, the partition between storage and program memory cannot be adjusted. I show a lot (by windows mobile standards) of free program memory but none in storage. I find nothing left to remove.

I have the same problem - cant reduce the storage data, inbuilt memory 8gb is free and I purchased a new 8gb card thinking this would solve it....answer no! can anyone help ?

  • angelagoble Feb 03, 2009

nope... I have the same "memory critically low" message, without too many files open or any new large (non program) files...

  • angelagoble Feb 07, 2009

I also freed up some room by removing VZnavigator. Looks like you just cant download many programs or else it fills up your memory? I went in to verizon, but they didnt have a clue. They told me to try calling samsung

  • DuanvdW Feb 09, 2009

I have in fact moved all my own data files to the storage card. I have also closed all application in the task manager. It still happens. I still get the "low video memory" messsage. What an unhelpful messsage! I really really regret buying an Omnia - never a touch screen for me again, and this compounds my feelings about this phone.

I suspect that the Garmn Navigation software takes up too much phone memory - but there seems to be no way of installing the Garmin Data files on the memory card. Anyone for a free Omnia?

  • call me mook Feb 10, 2009

same problem as everyone else.... is this a manufacturers defect? can we all get new phones??!!???

  • Russputin G Feb 11, 2009

Any modern day Zapruders would be well advised not to rely on the Omnia.
However as a workaround try ending all tasks in "task manager" ( press and hold menu button) before using camera.

I have tried local Voda stores for a real solution but the staff admit that they don't know how to use the Omnia.

Phones 4U, where I bought it, initially claimed that I must have damaged it by dropping it or getting it wet. When pressed they also admit that they haven't a clue how to use the Omnia. I am told that one of the Saturday staff, who had one for a while, might help but I can't get into town on Saturdays

I am using a Vodafone Omnia with 8G card ( approx 7.5g free space according to memory tool).
Vid and photo are stored to the card. If I want to take an "on impulse" photo without running task manager first, I generally find that a dialogue box will come up telling me that I don't have enough video memory. By the time I've freed up enough memory the moment has passed.

    regards

I still cant seem to get the memory to clear up for very long. I have tried everything. My only suggestion to those of you out there who just got your phone is to try and return it. Also, I went through file explorer/application data/opera/cache and deleted all the cookies manually, which frees up a bit and allows me to work. What is really frustrating is that when the memory is full I cannot make a call, send a text...nada! So, my phone is useless until I clean out that cache! I took of the visual voicemail and the navigator programs as well...as the memory that is full is all of the application memory. Hope this helps...

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2009

Mine keeps on switching to another time zone then says: The File':MSCprog cannot be opened. Either it is not a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. if the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.

But I have not touched the phone. The only way I can clear is to reboot. But it happens all day. It also happens during the night when the phone is next to my bed and I havent touched it.

  • ilovesbux Mar 31, 2009

I cleared out the my browser cache and the VZAppZone temp directory too and recovered half my memory from the second thing alone. Thank you for that!! My question is why didn't these files show up when I clicked "Find large files using storage memory"??

I found this fix on another website. After numerous calls to verizon-they had no clue-and hours of trying to figure things out I found and tried this fix and it worked!

"I have a Samsung Omnia on VZW network. I was getting the "Memory Critically Low" error too. So, I opened File Explorer and did some searching for files that could be removed etc. I found an entire cache of files here: My Device: Program Files: VZAppZone:Temp:Temp

I deleted these files using a mass delete: Menu:Edit:Select All: Menu:Delete With no ill effects as of yet.

I spent the better part of an hour testing every application on the phone, opening contacts, etc. I haven't noticed anything wrong.

Doing this freed up almost 35mb of storage!!!!! "

I had the same results. This finally solved my mem problems-no more pop up critical me low box!! It freed up over 1/2 the avail memory.

Another tip is to clear out your browsers cache files

It Occured to me that this problem came up only last night (After owning my phone for a few weeks now) Last night i spent some time on the web @ new websites.

For me it was all the memory being taken up by my Cache in Opera. a little over 750 files ranging from a few bites to 30-70k files. That did the trick for me.

You can find the cache folder here (My file explorer is in my start menu if yours isn't you can add it from your Main Menu>Settings>Menus) Cache Folder for Opera: File Explorer>My Device> Application Data> Opera 9> Cache

Good luck!

I had the same problem with low memory storage with only less than 2MB left. After reading several posts here I went to File Explorer -> My Device -> Application Data -> Opera9 -> Cache and deleted everything! Still with only now 3MB free. But I decided to look in the same directory structure (File Explorer -> My Device -> Application Data -> Opera9 -> Downloads) and deleted everything there. All of a sudden, my Storage memory was showing 44.78MB free!!!

I just bought an Omnia and had the same issue when I loaded music onto my phone. Frustrated the hell out of me with that little "Capacity full" message popping up on my phone. I Googled the problem and still could not find a solution -- until I figured out the problem and fixed it.

1) Problem -- there are three forms of memory on the Omnia - Storage (88MB), My Storage (8-16GB) and memory card. Storage is very small and gets filled by things like surfing the internet and new apps downloaded. Also, when loading music and media to your phone make sure only My Storage or memory card are selected.

2) Solution -- only way to delete info from "Storage" is to plug your phone into your computer. Neat little Windows Mobile box will pop up after your phone is detected by your computer. Choose "Connect without setting up your device." Choose "File Management." Bingo! All three memories and there capacities are shown. Select Storage and delete any files clogging up memory -- in my case music files and temp internet files.

Problem solved? Not really, any time you download new apps and surf the internet Storage keeps filling up and you occasionally have to delete stuff to free up memory. Come on - It's a Windows product, do you expect anything less!

I had/have the same problem. I was getting this right after I started my phone, without running any applications that are not started by default.

I have been able to at least temporarily reduce the System Memory usage by deleting all Temporary Internet Files in my Opera folder. This freed up about 4mb. I plan to stop in my local Verizon store with a tech dept to find out if there is something else to do.

I could see 2 reasons for this problem.
1) Too many applications are open (like touch player, windows media player, camera, messaging services etc). If you just go to task manager and end task everything the error reported may not come.
2) Some huge files may be present which you can detect using the search facility in program files. Delete them. Also if some huge picture file or video clip is present in the my document folders you may need to move/remove them to your external storage card.
Hope one of the above solves the problem.

I've deleted cache, temp internet files, call logs, text messages....pretty much everything except my phone #'s Is it me or is this phone just a piece of ****!!!! I've had nothing but problems with this piece of junk. Email and text not working, cutting in and out of digital service, stupid error messages out of nowhere for no reason. One simple thing I did was set the camera to save pics on the storage card rather than the main memory. Do this under the camera app and use the settings there. I was leary of this phone at first with the ugly interface, but since I downloaded and installed the "Spb Mobile Shell" I love the look and functionality.

For people still having this problem, just follow the instructions off deleting the Temp files, for people having the problem with My Storage, saying that your phone says your My Storage is full, but your pc, or other part of the phone saying like 4 GB are free, this is what you have 2 do :
1. Backup all your My Storage files on your PC. 2. With your USBtoPC cable, formate the My Storage(8 or 16 GB) location from My Computer. 3. Put all the files back on your Omnia. 4. Don't go to touch player, updating it's Music Library. --> Touch player uses all of your phones memory.
Bye!

Hi why my omnia 1900 cannot take picture? its appear only loading?

Check the available free memory on phone & memory card. If the phone memory is almost full then your camera will not work. Check the option of saving the photo files in camera menu, which has to be memory card & not phone. Any photo files on phone shall be transferred to memory card. Delete unwanted messages to free up more memory. Please get back to me if the there is sufficient free memory in phone & still the problem remains.

Can you recover deleted files from samsung omnia?

You may try this file recovery program which helped me before. You can download trial for free
http://www.asoftech.com/products.html

Please be noted that your phone memory should show as a drive letter in your explorer, if not, you need to take out your memory card and connect using a card reader, or plug-in to card reader slot if there's any on your computer.

I have a samsung sgh-g600 and iv put in a brand new 4gb sd memory card but when i try to save anything to it it says its full. the memory card is completly empty

Make sure that the file that you are saving is point to the external memory card, and not to the built in memory of your phone.

Checked the manual of your SGH-G600 and see on how you can change the storage settings.

You may also try to reformat the memory card and see if that will help.

Thank you!

Can I load my pics and texts to pc and how do i save these to sim

to move your phone and pictures to your pc, do these steps.
note 1. if you didn't installed the samsung pc suite yet, do these.
>> if your pictures are stored in the phone memory, do these..
1. move all the pictures to your memory card.
2. insert your sd card to its adapter and insert them to your for laptop, sd card slot. for desktop, you need to have a memory card reader. by then it will be read by both pc and laptop as mass storage device and you can easily drag and drop files from both pc to your memory card.
OPTION (you can also do these)
1. configure your phone pc connections settings, check ask for pc connections, you can find the settings through, menu, select settings, select phone settings, select pc connections, check '' ask on connections''
2. connect your phone, it will ask for pc connections, select memory card, your computer will read it the same way as mass storage device, once read, you can drag and drop files from pc to your memory card.

>>>
i believe there is no way you can back up your messages by using your phone, not unless you have a program to do it, like PIM backup, or messages backup or something like that..

Note 2.
if you installed your samsung PC suite program,do these.
>> connect your phone, let it be searched by the PC studio, once connected, do the following.
1. open your communicator, select messages.
2. synchronize your phone message to the program,
3. highlight all the sms, mms(both inbox and outbox or sent) open the menu, select export to pc, once successful, the software will ask you where to save it. create a new folder (SMS backup) and save it there.
4. do the same way for your MMS, (both inbox and sent)
5. check the file in your computer NPS if the export was successful, you will find there the file which you had assigned a name.

>>to save pictures to your computer using samsung pc suite, do these..
1. double click your phone icon, the pc suite will read it, wait for it until it displays the panel.
2. from the panel, select files either from your phone or from your memory card.
3. once selected, highlight the picture images, press and hold and drop to the computer icon, the file will be saved from there. to check the files save, open your documents, default saving folder is not NPS but my pictures folder.

please consider that if highlighting images can not be done, then do it one by one, click and hold the images and drop to the computer icon. and to organize your file for immediate retrieval, create a folder from your NPS( you can see it to my computer my documents) and rename it as IMAGE BACKUP or your phone name_image back up (i.e; impression_image_backup)

Note 3. to transfer your files to your new cell, please consider this, if the phone your going to buy is not a samsung or the same brand as your previous phone then you will be having these effects,
1. the messages you have backed up will not be recognized by your new phone software program, then i advise you to copy your messages to your sim, the only advantage of it is, if your sim can only hold several text messages, hence you can not save all.
2. the phone book contacts may also not be recognized, hence i advice you to create 3 back up for your phone book contacts, A) make it as npf file extension for your samsung phone. B) the other as csv file extension C) outlook contacts or vcard extension file. you can select this in the drop down menu during saving or back up.

and to answer your question, you can't save your pictures to your sim, as your sim is not designed for it, unless, your network provider sim is providing this service.

you can check from your phone book settings, what is the default memory of phone contacts storage. for your pictures, you can check also from settings, just select memory settings and select default memory.

last thing, you can do the above steps for your new phone, the only difference is that, you will not be using the samsung pc suite, but your new phone's pc suite.

hope i answered your queries..
regards and take care.
