Where to oil your sewing machine

The rule of thumb about oiling your sewing machine is to put one drop of oil (sewing machine oil only, please!) wherever one metal part moves against another. Do that, and you won't go wrong. You can also look for the oil ports -- small holes in metal gears and housings--I've posted a good photo at www.robbiesews.blogspot.com--where you put one drop of sewing machine oil. Don't use oil on the gears themselves--use sewing machine grease instead.

Oil ports and places where metal moves against metal can be found in three locations: on the top of the machine, under the cover; on the bottom of the machine; and behind the access door (or panel) on the left side of the machine head.

Here's a generic sketch:

Note: Please refer to your sewing machine manual to see if your machine is self-oiling. If it is, disregard this note--you do not oil those machines.

Where do I put oil drops in my janone 2049, sometimes it gets stuck

Put just one drop of good quality sewing machine oil on moving parts. You can set machine back gently on towel. Remove bottom plate by removing each screw. Set each screw in a bowl so they don't roll anywhere. I have 30 years experience, so I personally run my machines when oiling so I can observe the parts that move. I d on't recommend this if you have pets & children, and leave that up to you! You should probably unplug machine and just look for anything that is NOT a gear, and just put one drop oil on those parts. Singer lubricant should go on actual gears, but ONLY if not already "greasy". Reassemble bottom plate. If your machine left front section opens up, one drop on those moving parts, and smear one drop of oil on hook. One drop top of needle bar. Do NOT oil or lube plastic parts. Never use cooking oil or bath oil; it will coagulate & damage machine. Always run machine with a scrap of fabric for a bit to distribute oil and to make sure excess does not get on your good fabric. Then rethread machine and replace bobbin and put fresh needle in. Yes, removed thread, bobbin, and needle BEFORE you lube & oil. Did this help? Best of days and nights sewing, Jimmy

How often should it be oiled?

sewing machine oil is a very light oil so it does not hang around very long. if you are a heavy user of the machine it is best to oil it every month or so. if when it is stored for a long period it should be oil then too. there are one or 2 bits that need some light greasing too. some 3-1 oil is good for the job and do all the moving parts lightly and not too much oil as it will mark your clothes. hope this helps.

Trying to figure out where to oil my old White 265 machine. the manual only talks about how to oil the bobbin shuttle.

Hi. The rule of thumb is to put one drop (just one drop, that's all it takes) of sewing machine oil wherever two pieces of metal move against each other. You can also look for the oil ports(see tip on where to look for oil ports and for a photo, see www.robbiesews.blogspot.com). Your machine may also have small oil holes in the sewing machine housing, so put one drop of sewing machine oil in each of those.

Please use only sewing machine oil to oil your machine.

Hope this helps!

Do i need to put oil in my huskystar 224 sewing machine If so where do i put it in the machine

Check your user manual. More than likely there are a couple of holes along the lower part of the machine where the material goes (throat of the machine). Usually oil goes in those holes but only a drop. The best oil is from the bicyle shop used to oil chains--Tri-Flow. I have a huskystar 217 for 5 years and have never felt that it needed oiling. Sews like a gem.

How to oil Spartan 327k sewing machine

Use only sewing machine oil. Get an oiler with a long spout so you can reach far places, put a single drop of oil on every place that has metal moving on metal.

How to oil old featherweight

Hi! I love the old Singer sewing machines!! Do you have the user's manual for your machine? The manual has great diagrams showing where to put oil and grease. If you don't, check out http://www.221parts.com/

In the meantime, look for little holes, often with raised edges and put a drop of oil in each. Put a drop of oil wherever metal moves against metal. You'll need to oil inside the head, on the right-hand side where the motor is located (DON'T oil the motor--use grease instead), and also underneath.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.
