Hi, thank you for answering. The screen doesn't even turn on. I can hear the fans running but that's pretty much about it and the CD/DVD drive does not turn on either.

Sx280 video controller

For Windows XP drivers, the last supported through Dell, try one of the three listed here:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/product/optiplex-sx280

Change the Operating System to "MS Windows XP" and the Category to "Video".

This discussion suggests that Windows Update will get you working drivers after a Windows 7 install:

Optiflex sx280 does not start.

Fans working? Maybe a PSU failure? Replace CMOS Battery. Reseat/replace Memory Mods. It's getting a bit old. Hard to say with a older computer thing start to go one by one. I replaced a PSU after 7 years. CMOS battery dead, replaced, Then the Sound Failed, new sound card. etc. I stripped it of useful parts and sent it out into the world.

I just have a OPTIPLEX SX280 and try to connect to my old montor (VGA), when I turn on power it seem run starting but the it show up on monitor screen "can not display video mode". What is that...

When you first power on the computer tap the <F8> key to bring you to a menu that has the option of running in safe mode. If the computer boots up in safe mode and you are able to see the display on your monitor then your current video drivers are not supported for the old monitor.

How do I make my Dell Optiplex SX280 wireless?

Just the wireless router I'm pretty sure it comes with all you need. Ask the store rep about this when you buy it, they will know which one you are buying, and what goes with that is not included. It should have a cd which you insert, and then follow directions given.

After upgrading memory, 6 beeps, how to proceed

According to Kingston's web site, the Optiplex SX280 uses DDR2-400 or 533 speed chips of up to 2GB in size, for a total possible maximum of 4 GB. If you've used any other combination or type of chip, its not going to work. Also, make *sure* you've installed the chips correctly; it's easy to do improperly. You start by inserting them at a 45 degree angle, then pressing the high edge down until it clicks into place. Pop them both out if you still have trouble, and install them again. Make sure you've taken all static protection measures.

Yellow blinking power button

A customer of mine has several of these that have the same problem. I found a comment on a Dell forum indicating that one of the capacitors on the mainboard will be either swollen or leaking. Replace the capacitor and it should be OK. I do not have the proper equipment for soldering on a mainboard so I have not done this. However, I did a google search on "Dell SX280 mainboard purchase" and I found a guy on ebay selling the repaired boards for $100.
