You can either try resetting your device ( this will NOT affect your apps, music, saved content, games etc... ) it will restart your system and go back to lock screen.
How?You just simply hold the power and home button together ( IGNORE any screen shots or power off icons ) this will take approximately 15- 20 seconds then the little apple icon will appear, wait until it goes back to lock screen then try connect it to the computer and restore.

If it does not work, you might be running an outdated IOS software, if so, you must update or contact APPLE and get their help.

Hope it works:p

SOURCE: IPHONE HELP IPHONE HELP IPHONE

I read on another site that this is because of a bad nand ram chip.
I solved this error by putting a low current through the chip..(ipod 1gen battery) you have to expose the chip and using the + and - wires touch them to the 4 contacts you can see on the right hand side .
reasemble the phone and try going though the restore process..if it fails the first time try again.. make sure the the logic board is out of the housing so the board is not getting power.
It took me a couple of goes...and it work twice so not a fluke!.

Why does an error message continue to pop up when I am trying to restore my iPhone?

Since you didn't mention the error code number, I am going to assume it is 3014 because it is the most common iphone error associated with restoring the iphone. A fix which have been confirmed to work in most cases can be found here:

Hello,

Thanks for choosing Fixya.

I would like to suggest you that restore your iPhone with iTunes, before restoring take backup of your iPhone deleting the Watsapp from iPhone then make full restore using Itunes & Make fresh installation over the Wi Fi to iPhone. I believe that will work for you.

Thanks & Regards,

Corrupted software

It isn't often that Apple gives specific directions about how to fix your problem! Restoring the iPhone 4 will erase everything on it, so make sure everything on the iPhone 4 is stored elsewhere prior to restoring. To restore, connect your iPhone 4 to a computer with iTunes installed. Click "Restore" on the iPhone 4 summary page (click on your iPhone icon on the left menu to find this page). Follow the directions to restore. If your iPhone 4 displays the text "Please wait. Very Low Battery," leave it plugged in. This charges the iPhone 4 enough to be able to restore. If the iPhone 4 hangs on this screen for long periods of time, you may need a new battery.

Force restore mode

If your iPhone 4 is hanging with an Apple logo, or exhibiting some other software problem that prevents iTunes from recognizing it, you can force it into recovery/restore mode and then use iTunes to restore the software.
If the device is powered off, plug one end of your USB cable into the iPhone 4 and leave the other end disconnected. Press down on the Home button, and keep holding it down while you plug the USB cable into your computer. After 5-10 seconds, you should see a "Please Connect to iTunes" image on the iPhone 4, and iTunes should prompt you to restore the software; follow the prompts and the instructions given above.
If the device is powered on, hold down both the power and home buttons until the device reboots and displays the "Connect to iTunes" image (generally, 5-15 seconds).
God bless you

Disable your internet security while trying to connect. Enable it after you have finished doing whatever you needed to do with itunes. You may also be able to include itunes and the itunes store in the websites acceptable to your internet security software.

Nokia 6100 contact service solution please

This tutorial will show you how to upgrade your iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.1 without upgrading its baseband using TinyUmbrella for Windows.

Currently there is an issue with older basebands such as 1.59.00 and FW 4.3.1. Until ultrasn0w is updated, you will only see one bar under signal strength.

Please Note: This ONLY Works with the iPhone 4!

Step One
Download TinyUmbrella from here Also make sure to download the iPhone 4 iOS 4.3.1 which you can find here.
47441.png

Step Two
Double click the downloaded TinyUmbrella.exe file.
50095.png

If you get a Windows Firewall notification, check both boxes and click Allow Access.
50094-500.png

Step Three
Make sure the device is connected, and Umbrella has detected the type of device and its firmware.
50096-500.png

**If you haven't already saved your iOS 4.3.1 SHSH blobs then click Save SHSH. Make sure they successfully save before continuing.
47534.png

Step Four
Hit Start TSS Server and make sure you receive no errors.
47535.png

Once The TSS Server is "running" successfully, umbrella will kill iTunes. Leave TinyUmbrella Open. You can double check to see if the TSS server is running under the Log tab.
47536.png

If you do receive an error, DO NOT continue. Your restore will not work if the TSS server cannot be started.

Step Five
Open iTunes by doubling clicking its icon.
50103.png

Hold down the Shift key and click Restore
47449-500.png

Select your iPhone 4.3.1 firmware file from the popup window that appears and click Open.
50097-500.png

Click Restore to begin restoring your device.
50098.png

Step Six
iTunes should give you error 1013. This is what we wanted, as it notes the baseband has not updated :) Click Ok and close iTunes.
50099.png

If you get a 16XX error then try entering DFU and go to step 5.
If your restore does NOT end in a 1013, it means your baseband was updated. This is likely because you did not have the TSS server running OR you updated without TinyUmbrella OR you are working with a device OTHER than iPhone 4.

Step Seven
Place your iPhone into DFU mode by holding down both the Power and Home buttons for ten seconds, then release the Power button and continue holding the Home button for another 5 seconds. You can find help with DFU mode here.
47454.png

Step Eight
Fix Recovery in TinyUmbrella is currently not working. Download this standalone .exe file to fix recovery on 4.3.1. Extract the file and double click on fixrecovery43.exe. A command prompt will open, and the program will go through the process. During this time, you will notice scrolling text on your iPhone 4.
50101-500.png

Step Nine
Your iPhone will now be on 4.3.1 with the 1.59.00 baseband! (Which means you can now unlock using this tutorial)
