Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Enter the CMOS/BIOS configuration of the Toshiba. Determine if the hard drive is auto detected, if not try to manually detect/enable the hard drive. Your described problem is that the computer could not find a bootable media and reverts to booting from the network.

Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Toshiba nb300 windows starter won't boot. PXE-E61 media test failure. check cable.

If your computer is working fine, then disable PXE boot in BIOS or remove from 1st boot option. This is a LAN (network) boot option. It can't find a DHCP server, that's why the media test failure is displayed. It's usually used to load an OS image from network.

For the most part not a real problem. More of a warning. Some corporate models use PXE to mass image.
If there is a problem (won't boot) then it lost communications to hard drive, and you need to check BIOS for hard drive.

This indicates hard drive issues, or windows files have been corrupted. If you have a backup disk try and load windows, no change! have the hard drive tested for possible replacement.

Toshiba satellite L455D-S5976 PXE-E61 media test failure...brand new hard drive What do I do???

You need to boot from an installation CD for the operating system, or the Toshiba restore set. New hard drives are completely blank when you purchase them. The computer is looking for something to boot from and cant find it, so it trys to boot from ethernet. Check your bios set up for boot order and boot devices. You might try disabling boot from network.

Hope this helps

welcome to fixya

In the bios, set the NIC entry to "ON (PXE off)" and remove the option of PXE boot from the boot sequence. Make sure all IDE devices are set to cable select (hard drives, CDROM, CD-RW etc) and that only those devices you have present are set to AUTO in the bios.

this should fix the problem have a good day
