Question about Unknown Hiti P510s 6 Dye Sub Roll-type Photo Printer us/ca Version

My 510s is having issues with printing. The print ribbon is sticking to the paper, thus tearing the ribbon and causing a paper jam.

Ribbon is sticking to paper as it travels through the printing process causing an error and printer jam.

Remove any slack in the ribbon by turning the ribbon-tightening knob, or reinstall the ribbon cartridge...

First Turn the printer off, open the printer cover and remove the jammed paper if paper is jammed..

I have same problem, the message make me wonder. I am very sure there is no paper tears in the printer. But then i have the answer from internet. I hope this answer can solve your problem too.
First shutdown your printer and open printer cover and find something like ribbon plastic transparant. becareful,clean that gently use wipe tissue or alcohol tissue. dont touch with your finger. hopefully it can solve your problem.

Why is my ribbon tearing?


Ribbon usually gets teared due to the heat of the print head being set to high. Go to MENU MODE / PRINT CONTROL / HEAT and select a heat setting of 12 or 14.

If after the change affects your print quality being poor, your ribbon and label type combination is wrong or your print head needs to be re-aligned.

Make sure that both ribbon and media paths are clean (no glue, or sticked labels). Make shure the ribon and the media are corect installed on their paths.

PR-01724 Ribbon Break

The print ribbon is broken.

Possible Cause 1: The print ribbon has broken or is not installed.

Solution 1: Trim the broken ribbon evenly and tape the cut end of the ribbon to the ribbon on the take-up spool. Install the ribbon cartridge.
NOTE: Do not switch take-up spools when fixing.

Possible Cause 2: If the ribbon type is K or KT, the print ribbon is at the end of the roll.

Solution 2: Load a new roll of monochrome print ribbon.

Technical issues:

•If you have recently changed edge-to-edge settings using the SmartDriver, printing might be too close to the edge of the card. Change edge to edge settings.

•You might have moved the print ribbon while the printer power was off. The next card will print correctly. The printer is designed to allow you to fix problems while the printer power is on.

•If the print ribbon is stuck to the card, the Intensity setting might be so high that printing causes the ribbon to stick to the card. Lower the Intensity or power setting.

•The card design might be longer than the card size. Change the card design to be less than or equal to the card size in the long direction (3.37 inches or 85.60 mm).

•Printing might not be positioned properly on the card. Change the "Left/Right" position of printing (using the SmartDriver) so the printing begins and ends on the card.

Unfortunatly not enough of the Hardware Alarm Task Number is included in the description to identify the most likely cause of the problem but some things you can check are;

  • Remove the ribbon from the printer, ensure this is not jammed or damaged
  • Power the printer OFF and try manually sliding the print head from side to side, look out for any objects which may obstruct the movement of the print head (pen lids etc!)
  • Ensure the print head gap is not set to close to the paper, thus jamming the print head
  • Remove the paper to ensure the paper is not restricting print head movement.
  • Clean the Optical Timing Strip that runs under the print head, ensure this is not damaged also.
  • Clean the carriage shaft, this should be FREE from any lubricants WD40 etc and dry running. Remove build up of paper dust etc.

    This error is indicating a problem with print head movement.
    This error can be indicated if there is any thing which may be preventing print head movement, things you can check include;

    That the he printer ribbon is not jammed and is located correctly in the printer,
    Check to ensure there is no paper jam of loose paper which may prevent print head movement
    Check the carriage shaft to ensure it is free from paper dust or any other obstructions.

    With the printer powered off, the print head should slide freely across the width of the printer, you can then see if there is any obstruction to the print head.
    You may then need to check the following for faults;
    Ribbon Driver
    Carriage Motor
    Carriage Belt
    Timing Strip
    Logic Board
    Interconnect Board.

    The mask stops this sort of problem and the print head could do with cleaning so that the pins don’t get stuck. The ink coagulates over the years and causes the pins to jam and eventually tear up ribbons of just burn up the driver coils in the head assembly. The head face needs cleaning with a cotton bud or two or three with isopropyl alcohol to remove all the ink residue from the pins and shafts. If you can remove the head assembly this is much easier to do.

    Printer error, only prints one color


    Did any of the ribbon come away, or tear when it broke, i have heard of small pieces lodging in the carriage or feeder. Check this very thoroughly as blockages can be very tiny. Check you correctly inserted the ribbon too, and it is the correct type of ribbon for your unit. (sounds silly but sometimes it ccan be that simple) try reinstalling printer, is the ribbon cartridge faulty? check it.
