Telescope slews uncontrolably no reponse 16

A possibility is that the batteries are low or if you have a power supply, that the connection is loose/faulty.

Be careful about running it off power supplies as A) not all plugs are the proper size and more importantly B) not all plugs are wired the same way. If you take any random plug that 'fits' you run a 50/50 chance of frying the electronics. If in doubt, buy the Celestron cable.

I had this happen a month or two back while running on AAs and it was due to the batteries being almost drained. They don't last very long.

I will add more info regarding my problem: My Celestron nexstar 8se was working ok. On the Dec.24 I Ieft it for awhile in the open and it felt a fine rain. I dried up the telescopeand put it inside. A

I'm having the same problem with my Astromaster 114 EQ . I can see better than the scope , but it is clear when I focus on images about 35 40 away in the daylight. I am now ready to trash this thing. For I had a Meade many years ago and it was great ,but I gave it to a friend to use, but he broke it. Next time Meade.

Celestron NexStar 8SE shows No Response 16 and No Response 17 errors repeatedly.

Reset the hand controller and reload the firmware. You will need a special cable available from Celestron to load the firmware. The software is available for free on the Celestron web site.

What does no response 16 mean on a 8se nexstar telescope hand controller

This means that the hand control has lost communication with the electronics board within the base of the telescope. The number following this message will indicate the address of the component that has lost communication. 16 indicates the azimuth or RA motor board, 17 the altitude (declination) motor board. Unfortunately, this number doesn't tell why the error has occurred.

To clear the no response messages, repeatedly press UNDO. This fix may be only temporary and does not address the potential underlying problem.

You may want to send it in/return it for repairs.

CG5 is brand new-not 30days old yet. Mount slews before a star is selected for alignment and continues to slew about the RA until power is cut. What is wrong. Tried 2 different power sources and factory...

You should return the scope under warranty-- however a bad power supply-- and or a bad hand controller cable can cause these symptoms called a "runaway slew".

Get a separate 12 volt power supply and the proper cigarette lighter style power plug.

Sirs: I'm the party with the "Rate Control" issue I have a new NexStar 8se.

The Rate Control only works for moving the telescope using the arrow keys. It does NOT work while doing an alignment, and GOTOs always slew at the max rate of 9.

For any other issues I would suggest you first RESET the hand controller and see if this corrects the problem and if NOT then reload the latest hand controller and or motor controller firmware, using the Celestron update cable and a computer.

Celestron CPC 800 frozen display in the Hand Controller

I've seen a couple of things cause this problem. Both can probably be fixed by you.

The first thing to try is to look at your power connector on the telescope. You'll see a pin sticking up with a split in the middle. Take a small knife or screwdriver and very gently pry that **** slightly apart. I've seen where that compresses and it becomes intermittent.

The other thing I've seen is an intermittent connection between the hand controller and telescope. This can happen on the controller end or telescope end. The AUX ports will work for the hand controller too. Try it in those ports and see if things improve.

If they don't, then you could have a loose connector on the hand controller. Mine was bad enough that if I wiggled it the controller would either go blank or lock up. I fixed mine by getting a telephone crimp tool and crimping it. It's worked fine since then.

Good luck!

Hand control comes up with no response 16

bintangchris: error 16 indicates a bad Hand controller, you may need to buy another one, also check all your connections going to the head assembly. Also error 16/17 indicates the HC cant communicate with the the RA/DEC control boards. It may need to go back to Celestron for repair.
