Press High Temp Scrub and Dry Heat option buttons in quick succession one after the other for about 6 sec until all the lights come on. Then press Cancel button. This should reset the dishwasher. Press equivalent buttons on the panel if the actual ones above are not there.
Make sure the dishwasher detergent dispenser lid is shut and the dishwasher door is shut before you start the above reset sequence.

I am not able to close the door and push the buttons. Here are the buttons that are on the top of the door: Pro Wash, Heavy Duty, Normal Wash, Light/China, 1 Hour Wash, Rinsh Only, Pro Scrub, Hi-Temp Wash, Sani Rinse, Top Rack Only, Pro Dry, 4 Hour delay, Start/Resume and Cancel/Drain.

please clarify the reason if any for not being able to close the door. The buttons to press for the reset in your case would be Hi-Temp Wash and Pro Dry. Maybe you can try to run the reset sequence as explained in my old post with the door open and see if it works. When all the lights light up on the panel press cancel.

I tried the high temp scrub and pro dry without success. The touch buttons are on the inside top of the door and when you close the door, you can't get to the touch buttons.

I got the dishwasher pulled slightly out so I can close the door and touch the two buttons you mentioned. This did not reset the machine.

The sequence is High Temp/ Dry/ High Temp/ Dry for about 6-8 sec. If you are unable to reset the dishwasher, and looking at the fault light you mention, the heater unit is failing and will need to be attended to by a repair technician.

Proper reset sequence for this model is to push any three buttons on the panel, one after the other, three times in succession, as in heavy duty-normal-light/china-heavy duty-normal-light/china-heavy duty-normal-light/china. All lights on the panel should then illuminate

SOURCE: Kenmore dishwasher, model 665.170 344 01. "Clean" light keeps flashing and will not stop. Have tried everything in the manual and the light still will not stop flashing.

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses then repeats...

If the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it will stop working and lock the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive).

To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...

-high temp wash
-heated dry
-high temp wash
-heated dry

...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.

If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring). It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).
