Question about George Foreman G5 Indoor Grill

2 Answers

Lower plate of my G5 George Foreman grill will not heat up.

The upper plate still heats up.The grill is about one year old and my sons use it a lot! How can I repair it? Is there a replacement part I can buy and install myself, or do I need to take it to a repair shop?

Mine was doing the same thing. Opened it up and found a loose wire. Reattached the wire and now it works fine

This comment saved our grill. Thanks so much. It was a loose wire. Easily fixed and kept us from buying a new one.

Thank you so very much, this comment saved my Grill. I got it about a year ago as a birthday present and my twins use it almost daily. We moved and the bottom grill wouldnt heat up after the move. I was able to fix it after reading your comment. Again, thank you so very much

SOURCE: Need replacement grill plates for a George Foreman GRP4P indoor grill

Hi joea64,

I'd contact the manufacturer (Salton, Inc.) customer service site for parts or manual. If they don't have them, they should know where to send you (though if they don't, I'd seriously wonder about the company).

Replacing ignitor

That is not really enough to tell us what you need.
We repair a lot of Viking model barbecue grills and stock all the various ignition parts. As Viking changed fabrication strategy the appliances have gotten much better through the years. An electrode purchased today for a Viking will not look the same as the original electrode but the new, longer, double-pronged electrodes work a lot better, are built a lot heavier, last a lot longer and cost less than the originals.
The only difference between the module and electrode and button architecture in a Viking when compared to any other high-end grill is the inner firewall. Between the control panel and the inside firewall inside the grill where the burners connect to the valves, there is a second firewall designed to hold-off heat damage created by certain problems (usually resulting from poor assembly after cleaning). The new Viking electrodes are long and thick but the back-end is also long which makes sure the electrode wires are far away from the heat of the firebox.
Other than that the 9volt module, button and electrodes are no different from any other high-end grill.
We do have exploded schematics of where all the grill parts belong in a Viking so contact us if you want copies of this information.

We have a jenn-air grill that is 12 years old. Should we buy a new one or replace the guts on the grill?

I doubt you can get replacement parts for this old grill.
I suggest you don't waste your time looking for parts and purchase a new one.

I have a TEC Patio II grill for 7 yrs. now and I have replsced the ceramic stones twice now. What can I do or buy to prevent this in the future? Thanks, Danny

What was your reason for replacement? They are good for the life of the grill and then few years to spare. I assume you are using infrared electric not gas.

They crack only and only if they were very hot and then something very cold was drop on them, if they were dropped or something was dropped on them.

To prevent that from happening in the future, I would suggest never place your food directly from fridge/freezer on your hot grill. Allow food to room temperature. Allow grill to heat evenly for at least 5 to 7min before cooking, never splash any liquid during cooking, use marinade sparingly. Never clean the plate while it is hot.

Your statement and question forced me actually to do bit of research as well on this grill... I find as well from one of my friends that they purchased they replacement from that store:

They said that plate was bit thinner but fit perfectly and work for them already two years, was as well half the price of the original including postage.

Rear Burner is hotter than the front burner on my Weber Grill

Since the grill is 15 years old, it is probably time to rebuild it. Replace both burners and anything else that is not working properly
