I assume you went to the menu and selected adjust audio/video. There should be a choice for closed caption on/off.

How display captions on TV from DVD player?

The captions availability is part of the DVD program that you are watching. If the movie or feature recorded on the DVD disc has got captions then you should be able to select it as part of the DVD setup menu that shows up on screen when you insert the DVD disc in the DVD player.

I have tried numerous times to turn the caption on on my tv and it will not even let me go to the 'Closed Caption' option and I would really love for my caption to be on. I need help ASAP!

The tv is on an input that closed captioning does not work on. Captioning may be available on the device connected to this input on the tv.

Closed caption problem

I had the same issue... here's what I did.  If power off your cable box, then press the menu button, there's a selection to enable or disable Closed Captioning.  This works for both HD series Motorola boxes Comcast offers, at least in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.  Hope this helps!

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

I have a Sharp Aquos 46" and go a Comcast HD receiver as well, and had the same problem turning off the Closed Captioning. I order to turn it off you need to go into the box user setting by (starting w/ the cable box and tv on) pressing the power button for the cable box then the menu button for the cable box. This will open up the user settings menu. Just toggle CLOSED CAPTION to DISABLED.

Turn off closed caption on input(component) on Sharp Aquos 42"

This is what just worked for me. If I can figure this out, anyone can :) We have comcast cable hddvr box, motorola 3416, and a new Samsung HD Plasma, but try this no matter what you have...
turn your cable box off, and THEN press menu on the box. A white screen popped up and this is where I had to scroll down to and disable the captions. I couldn't believe this worked since I thought the cables were enabled on my TV since my captions were covering my cable menus, but it was the cable. I hope this helps.

The DVD player needs to have the decoding built into it.
