You might have an intermittent sensor problem. if you can recreate the problem easily head to a repair shop and show them how to get it to do it, and let them diagnose it.

These problems can take hours to figure out, even for Master Technicians like me as you not only have to get it to happen, you have to see it happen.

SOURCE: We have a 2003 Suzuki

I'm not an expert with the Suzuki, but I have had lots of experience with transmissions. Chances are, one of your shift solenoids is bad and needs to be replaced. There's also a much smaller chance that the wire going to the solenoid has been pinched or broken.

Ultimately, the car will have to be connected to a professional-quality scantool and driven to confirm it. Then, the solenoids will have to be removed and tested. They are always either located on the valve body in the transmission pan, or they are attached to the top or side of the transmission as a "solenoid pack", where all of the solenoids are replaced as a unit.

Step one for you is just to make absolutely sure the fluid level is good and the fluid isn't burned or contaminated. It should be nice, clear, and pink. If it smells bad and looks more reddish brown than pink, or it's shiny with metal flakes in it, then something else is wrong.

"service engine" light is on after battery went dead and the jumped start my 2003 Suzuki Aerio sedan

scan it. (plug in any scan tool and read it (USA answer.)
use a scan tool, also there are some things that need do be relearn
and all this is covered in the FSM or the operators guide(briefs)
idle relearn
tranny relearn. etc,,,,
or at alldata.com. might be there, too,
scan it, and see what codes you get.
i have no idea what engine option you have or transmission..
i bet you lost the radio code too, and never backed it up.
